The Indiana Fever are two games into the 2025 WNBA season, opening with a dominant 93-58 win over the Chicago Sky on Saturday before falling just short in a 91-90 loss to the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday.
They’ve been without guard Sophie Cunningham in both games, as she continues to recover from an ankle injury suffered in the team’s final preseason outing. While she has returned to practice, the team is taking precautions.
Cunningham was initially listed as questionable heading into Tuesday’s game but was ruled out shortly before tip-off.
The Fever held practice on Wednesday, where head coach Stephanie White spoke to the media. When asked if Cunningham would be available for Thursday’s rematch against the Dream, White gave an update on her status.
"I hope so, obviously we have to go through today with no setbacks, but I'm hopeful that she'll be able to be in uniform and be on the floor for us," White said to Indiana Fever beat reporter Scott Agness.
The Fever missed her presence and depth on Tuesday night. White brought Damiris Dantas, Brianna Turner, Sydney Colson and Lexie Hull off the bench, but only Hull saw significant playing time, logging 29 minutes, while the others played fewer than 10.
Clark still did her thing, going for 27 points, five rebounds and 11 assists.
Cunningham, 28, was selected No. 13 overall by the Phoenix Mercury in 2019 and spent six WNBA seasons with them before being traded to the Fever last offseason.
The 6-foot-1 guard quickly showed what she’s capable of in Indiana, putting up 21 points, eight rebounds and two assists in the team’s first preseason game before suffering the injury.
