The Indiana Fever are currently fighting to get back into the WNBA playoff picture. They have a 20-18 record, which is sixth in the league, after blowing out the Seattle Storm, who are now in eighth place, on Tuesday.

They're having to go to war and try to get into the postseason while seriously short-handed in their backcourt. Sophie Cunningham and Aari McDonald are both out for the season with a torn MCL and a broken foot, respectively, while Caitlin Clark is just starting to ramp things up while being out since mid-July with a strained groin.

In addition, rookie forward Chloe Bibby missed her second straight game on Tuesday due to a sore left knee. The Fever badly need to get enough of their healthy players back as soon as possible in order to increase their chance of not only making the playoffs but also doing something of note there.

Fortunately, there is a bit of good news in that regard.

Coach Stephanie White Gave an Update on Bibby

According to White, Bibby is nearing a return to practice, which means her return to game action shouldn't be far away.

“I don’t have any specifics on it,” White said. “I think right now it’s day-to-day. She’s progressing with her rehab. I anticipate by hopefully, by the end of the week she’ll be on the floor just for practice.”

Bibby, a native of Australia, played five years of college basketball at Mississippi State and Maryland. Prior to starting at Mississippi State, she spent some time playing in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL), a pro league based in Australia.

After her college career ended in 2022, she returned to the WNBL and also had a couple of stints playing pro basketball in Europe. She went undrafted and was signed by the expansion Golden State Valkyries in February before she was released in late June.

In nine games with the Fever, Bibby has averaged 3.9 points in 9.8 minutes while shooting 39.1% from 3. Three-point shooting is supposed to be one of their superpowers—they ranked third in 3-point accuracy last year, but amidst their injury problems, they haven't been as potent in that category this year.

How Close is Clark to Returning?

Clark, the reigning Rookie of the Year and the most iconic player in women's basketball today, reportedly took part in a walk-through on Monday. White said that Clark needs to fully participate in practice and get her wind back before returning to game action.

"She went through it yesterday," White told reporters, per ESPN. "I want to see her in practice. Live in practice. I want to see her continue to work to not just build endurance, but to be able to handle contact [for] 94 feet as it's going to be in-game, and to be able to do that and sustain from an endurance standpoint."

Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game this season, but she was struggling mightily with her 3-point shooting for a few weeks prior to her injury. Returning to full health and improving her outside accuracy will be huge keys for the Fever as they chase a playoff spot in their six remaining regular-season games.
