Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White’s comments about Aliyah Boston’s injury during the season have now taken center stage. This comes after the Fever announced on Thursday that Boston successfully underwent arthroscopic surgery on her right knee to repair a lateral meniscus tear.
Boston has been a very durable player for the Fever. In fact, she didn’t miss a game until this year, her fourth WNBA season. The 6-foot-5 center-forward dealt with what the team described as a right lower-leg injury for virtually the entire season.
Boston ended up sitting out four games throughout the campaign. She also experienced a “flare-up” of the same injury in their regular-season finale against the Minnesota Lynx, but was eventually cleared to play in the playoffs.
On May 17, Coach White addressed Boston’s injury ahead of the four-time All-Star’s first career injury absence. Those comments have now resurfaced.
“Our medical team can give you specifics about what exactly it is, but we said this since the first day of training camp: we’re going to be managing her and managing her ramp-up, managing her in the day-to-day,” White told reporters during the pregame press conference.
“Again, it’s still early, and so there’s no reason to really push anything, and we want to make sure that we are utilizing an abundance of caution.”

Neither White nor the Fever disclosed the full details of Boston’s injury. It wasn’t until Thursday that the precise diagnosis, a torn meniscus, was revealed.
Fever beat reporter Tony East noted that the team described the issue as a “lower leg injury” throughout the season, “and was vague when asked about specifics, including once when directly asked if it was a meniscus injury.”
The Fever also announced Thursday that Boston will now begin her rehabilitation process. However, the team has not provided a firm recovery timeline.
Boston averaged 16.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.2 blocks across 40 regular-season games for the Fever in Year 4.
