Tempo-Wings clash makes WNBA attendance history

The Toronto Tempo are achieving great marks in its inaugural WNBA season, making attendance history in their matchup against the Dallas Wings on Friday night.

Toronto has been doing well in its first season in franchise history. They are currently in the playoff hunt as they have been switching between wins and losses.

This matchup saw them host Paige Bueckers and the Wings, a squad that is in the playoff picture. Fans came in droves for this game, as over 20,000 people attended the game at the arena.

“THE TEMPO MAKE HISTORY IN MONTREAL The Tempo-Wings game at the Bell Centre is now the most attended regular season game in WNBA history! This is the league’s first-ever game in Montreal,” the post read.

How Tempo played against Wings

The Tempo has a great future ahead of them as they go through Year 1 as a WNBA franchise. However, they were unable to capitalize on their attendance feat after falling 108-95 to the Wings.

Both teams traded blows throughout the first three quarters, seeing Toronto lead 85-84. However, Dallas came alive with a 24-10 run in the final 10 minutes of regulation to secure the win.

Four players scored in double-digits for Toronto in the loss. Marina Mabrey led the team with 34 points, one rebound and one assist on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, including 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. Laura Juskaite came next with 25 points and three rebounds, Isabelle Harrison had 18 points and eight rebounds, while Maria Conde provided 12 points and nine assists.

Toronto fell to a 9-13 record on the season, sitting at fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. They are above the Chicago Sky and the Connecticut Sun while trailing the Washington Mystics and the Indiana Fever.

Going through four consecutive losses, the Tempo will look to get back on track in their next matchup. They remain at home when they take on the New York Liberty on July 12 at 3 p.m. ET.
