Despite playing back-to-back games, the Minnesota Lynx defeated the Chicago Sky 80-75 on Sunday. Much of the credit goes to star point guard Courtney Williams . She scored 25 points, matching her season high. She had eight rebounds, six assists, and made 10 of 17 shots, including two of five three-pointers. Notably, the Lynx star is making headlines for another reason.

Recently, Williams recalled the moment she was informed that she would be selected to the WNBA All-Star team for the second time in her career, even unintentionally turning down a call from the league’s commissioner. This left fans grinning. When WNBA head Cathy Engelbert contacted Williams to inform her that she had been added to the roster, the Minnesota Lynx star acknowledged that she had not picked up the first time.

Cathy called me. I actually declined her phone call at first because I didn’t have her number. But she called right back. She said, ‘This is Cathy.’ I said, ‘Cathy who?’ And she said, ‘Man, I got some good news for you. You’re an All-Star.’

This was one of the hilarious moments caught on camera in the WNBA this season. Williams is known for her outspoken nature on and off the court, with many Lynx fans naming her a ‘live wire’ in the current roster. Aside from this, Williams and her Lynx teammate Napheesa Collier were named to the All-Star team; however, Cheryl Reeve will not be coaching Williams; instead, she will be coaching Caitlin Clark‘s squad.

Despite her impressive play, Lynx guard Kayla McBride has not been selected for the All-Star team. This is surprising because Minnesota is the clear favorite to win the WNBA title and currently has the best record in the league. However, Williams and Collier made the team.

In addition, Angel Reese, who was selected as a reserve, will be making the All-Star rosters. Clark will be the starting captain. Collier will also captain a WNBA side, making the upcoming WNBA matchup more interesting than ever.

Angel Reese left frustrated after a poor loss to the Lynx

The season did not begin as Angel Reese and her Chicago Sky had hoped. They dropped ten of their first thirteen games. Recently, they won 2 out of their last 3 games and went on to face the Lynx on Sunday. However, they were dealt a harsh loss, with some controversial calls by the referees, at least this is what Reese thought.

She went in hard at the refs during the post-match conference. Her frustrations were visible after bottling the lead against the Lynx on Sunday.

Obviously, you know, we can compete with the best. But that has to be fixed, and I don’t give a damn if I get fined because that (expletive) cheap, and I am tired of this (expletive). Because I’ve been nice and humble with it, but I am tired of this (expletive).

The 23-year-old went on to say she received an evasive response from officials when she questioned them about the no-calls. She wants the WNBA to correct the uneven officiating that is depriving spectators of a fair and enjoyable game.

Courtney Williams’ teammate Napheesa Collier is set to captain the WNBA All-Star Game

Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier will be the captains for the WNBA All-Star Game next month, the WNBA announced on Sunday. Clark received 1,293,526 votes from fans, while Collier received almost 100,000. Despite being absent because of a groin injury, the Indiana Fever star is scoring 18.2 points and dishing out a career-high 8.9 assists.

Collier tops the league in shooting (24.5 points, a career-high) and is fourth in the league in rebounds (8.4 per game). With former Lynx star Sylvia Fowles just behind her, her daughter, wearing a shirt that said, “Mama, you’re an All-Star,” crept into the changing room to tell Collier.
