What A’ja Wilson appreciates about Chennedy Carter joining Aces

With the Las Vegas Aces giving A’ja Wilson a historic $5 million contract extension, further cementing herself as the top player in the WNBA, the team is looking to keep building around her to obtain more championships. One of the moves is with the Aces adding guard Chennedy Carter, as Wilson gave her thoughts on the move.

Carter spent four seasons in the WNBA before playing in Mexico and China last season, but now that she’s back in the league with Las Vegas, Wilson gave insight into how much of a “joy” she has been in the locker room.

“It’s been a joy to have her in the locker room, and we’re gonna continue to push and help her grow, and she’s gonna help us grow. But I was an opponent against her when she fried us, and so it’s pretty cool to have her in the locker room now. So she won’t be frying us. She’s actually gonna be frying other people with our jersey on, which I’m very appreciative of,” Wilson said of Carter, according to Sara Jane Gamelli.

Chennedy Carter speaks after her Aces preseason debut

Carter showed out in her Aces debut in the first preseason game against the Japan national team, leading the team with 18 points off the bench, as she shot five of 10 from the field, one of four from deep, to go along with five rebounds and two assists. The game itself put Las Vegas in perspective.

“We have Olympians on our team…So it’s just being able to play with them, it’s honestly an honor,” Carter said, via Dominic Lavoie.

“I look up to [my teammates]. They have embraced me, and they’ve made me feel comfortable, and they’re helping me grow and elevate. And I trust that they’ll help me take my game to the next level, and I’m going to help them grow as well. So I’m really happy here,” Carter continued.

At any rate, Carter looks to continue to build the chemistry with Wilson and Las Vegas ahead of the regular season opener against the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday, May 9.
