Why Kate Martin Didn't Play During Tuesday's Unrivaled Game
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

When Laces BC entered Tuesday's Unrivaled game against Phantom BC, there was one player who was noticeably missing from the team: former Las Vegas Aces rookie and now Golden State Valkyries guard Kate Martin.

Martin didn't suit up in the contest, which saw the Laces take the 75-68 victory. It should be noted that the 24-year-old guard played when her Unrivaled team last took the floor on Feb. 1.

Apparently, however, the reason for Martin's absence is that she's dealing with an injury. According to the league's injury report, Martin is nursing a left leg issue.

Moreover, she's not the only Laces player who has been hit with a health setback. Tiffany Hayes (concussion protocol), Alyssa Thomas (right leg) and Jackie Young (lower body) also didn't make it to Tuesday's showdown due to various injuries.

As a result of Kate Martin's absence and the string of injuries that Laces BC have been dealing with, the team has added the likes of Kiki Jefferson and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton to relief player contracts. The latter even dropped 23 points in their latest outing.

It's unknown when Martin will be able to return to action for Laces BC, although they certainly need her and the rest of the roster with just six games left in the season.

After Tuesday's game, the Laces improved to a 5-3 record, good for second in the tournament standings.
