The Indiana Fever were not able to play at home in the WNBA playoffs last season. They lost both Games 1 and 2 on the road against the Connecticut Sun, thereby losing the opportunity to play what would have been a series-deciding Game 3 at home.
The league changed the format of the first round this year, converting it to a 1-1-1 series. This meant that, for the first time since 2016, the Fever were able to host a home playoff game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The Indiana faithful packed the arena for Tuesday’s Game 2 matchup against the Atlanta Dream, and they weren’t left disappointed. The Fever dominated this one to secure a 77-60 win, thereby tying this series at 1-1.
Shortly after Indiana’s season-saving win, the WNBA took to social media to announce a significant development for the Fever.
“THE WAIT IS OVER. The @IndianaFever earn their first playoff win in nine years — their last being on October 11, 2015!” the league posted on X.

The Fever’s last win in the postseason dates back even further to their last home game. In fact, it has been 3,628 days since this team last tasted victory in the playoffs.
While this may be a historic milestone for the Fever, they certainly aren’t settling for just one victory. They will want to carry over the momentum to Game 3 on Thursday as the series shifts back to Atlanta for the winner-take-all clash.
A victory for the Fever will secure their spot in the second round, but a loss will mark the end of their season. They will be the underdogs at Gateway Center Arena come Thursday, but as they have done many times this season, Indiana is determined to upset the odds yet again.
