Caitlin Clark and Stephanie White have been on damage control for the majority of this week.

During the Indiana Fever's loss to the Portland Fire last Saturday night, Clark and White were caught having a heated exchange on the bench. The former No. 1 pick tried her best to downplay any rumors about her relationship with her head coach.

"A lot of those things happen all the time, and I know there's a camera on me, and that's how it's going to be," Clark said. "But there's a lot of people out there in the media or on TV that they think they know a lot of things and they're just blatantly wrong about a lot of things."

White also defused any scorching-hot takes regarding this animated interaction.

"I think what happened in that moment is I was challenging a player," White told reporters. "It's coaching, it's what it is. And I don't often think it becomes an issue if you're watching it in men's sports most of the time."

Was anyone wrong for their behavior?

WNBA legend Candace Parker shared her two cents on this topic on her "Post Moves" podcast. She believes fans are blowing this storyline out of proportion.

That being said, Parker thinks Clark could accept a bit more constructive criticism.

"We are in a day and age where we are hiring coaches to relate with players and sometimes that happens in the heat of the moment," Parker said. "From Caitlin’s standpoint, as a player, you gotta take it. You gotta say, ‘Hey, I wasn’t right’ or maybe ‘I didn’t handle it that way’ or ‘I’m gonna handle it better in the future.’ But I do think a lot was made of it."

The Fever will return to the hardwood Thursday night to face the Atlanta Dream.
