The Indiana Fever have been battling it out without star point guard Caitlin Clark over the last two weeks. While Indiana is set to take the floor on Tuesday night, Clark will once again be out for the matchup. Fever head coach Stephanie White announced on Monday that Clark has begun ramping up her return but has not yet been cleared for all basketball activities.
With Clark sidelined—as well as Sophie Cunningham—the Fever have needed others to step up. One player who has consistently risen to the occasion is veteran shooting guard Kelsey Mitchell, who had a slow start to the year but has recently found her rhythm.
Over the past week, Mitchell has been outstanding, and her efforts have not gone unnoticed. On Tuesday, prior to their matchup against the Atlanta Dream, the WNBA announced that Mitchell had been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier was recognized as the Western Conference Player of the Week.

During a two-game stretch against the Washington Mystics and Chicago Sky—both wins for the Fever—Mitchell averaged 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Indiana has managed a 2–2 record with Clark out of the lineup, in large part due to Mitchell’s leadership and scoring surge.
Mitchell was the second overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft and has been a key part of the Fever’s growth over the past several years, especially since the team selected Caitlin Clark No. 1 overall in 2024.
Despite a slow start in the early part of the season, Mitchell is still averaging 17.4 points, 2.9 assists, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game. The Fever currently sit at 4–4 overall and have made it clear they won’t rush Clark back until she is fully ready to return.
