Although the Chicago Sky may not have landed the best player in the 2024 WNBA Draft, they certainly drafted the best duo. In the first round, they chose South Carolina center Kamilla Cardoso and LSU forward Angel Reese, both of whom excelled during their rookie seasons.

Reese averaged 13.6 points and a league-leading 13.1 rebounds per game, which was good enough for her to be named an All-Star and find her way onto the All-Rookie team despite missing six games. Cardoso also showed promise in her inaugural season, scoring 9.8 points per contest and adding 7.9 rebounds, which was also good enough to be named to the All-Rookie team a season ago.

The Chicago Sky have another opportunity to add two impact players in this year's WNBA Draft. On Sunday evening, they made a last-minute trade with the Minnesota Lynx to secure the No. 10 and No. 11 picks in the first round of Monday night's draft.

Many have speculated about who the franchise will select to pair with Reese, Cardoso, and Ariel Atkins, who the team traded for this offseason. CBS Sports' Jack Maloney predicted that Sky will take a duo of highly decorated guards, Kentucky's Georgia Amoore and NC State's Saniya Rivers, with their two first-round picks to complement the talent already on the roster.

Amoore was an All-American last season for the Wildcats, averaging 19.6 points and 6.9 assists per game while demonstrating elite shot-making and play making ability in the SEC. Rivers was All-ACC for the Wolfpack and had an incredible NCAA Tournament for NC State after averaging 11.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per contest during the regular season.

Part of the thinking here is that Amoore and Rivers would be perfect understudies to Courtney Vandersloot and Atkins, respectively, and it would allow these players to learn on the job while the Sky also have a veteran in place as a buffer. Because the team has already found its foundational post players, it is worth taking a gamble on two guards with high ceilings in the first round.
