WNBA guard Nika Muhl is officially done with the Seattle Storm. After spending four years with the UConn Huskies, Muhl entered the league as the No. 14 pick in 2024.
The Croatian player didn’t really get the chance to showcase her talents, although she became a fan favorite fast. She averaged only 3.6 minutes per game during her rookie campaign. After joining Besiktas, she suffered a torn ACL in October 2024.
On March 11, Muhl suffered the same injury during the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket Qualifiers. She announced she had undergone an injury earlier this week. Not everything was bad for the guard, as she learned exciting news about her future.
On Friday, the Seattle Storm announced that the Portland Fire used one of their picks in the expansion draft to select Nika Muhl.
“During the 2026 WNBA Expansion Draft, the Portland Fire utilized their pick to acquire the player contract of Nika Muhl from the Seattle Storm,” the team said in a statement. “Muhl was drafted by the Storm at No. 14 in the 2024 WNBA Draft. During her first season in Seattle, she appeared in 16 games, averaging 2.8 minutes per game.
“A 5-11 guard from Zagreb, Croatia, Muhl established herself as one of the top passers in UConn history. She was a two-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year and shut down two of the NCAA’s top scorers in Dyaisha Fair and Caitlin Clark during UConn’s 2024 NCAA tournament run. Muhl was named to the AP All-America Honorable Mention squad in 2024 and earned All-Big East recognition for three straight seasons.”
Muhl will likely miss the entire 2026 season again. She left college as an exciting prospect, but so far she hasn’t had the chance to showcase her talent, while injuries have been ruthless to her body.
