The Indiana Fever, with Caitlin Clark out for the year, secured a spot in the 2025 WNBA Playoffs on Sunday afternoon after taking down Sonia Citron and the Washington Mystics 94-65 at CFG Bank Arena. Aliyah Boston guided the Fever to victory with 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting, 11 rebounds and five assists.
With the win, the Fever improved to 23-20 on the 2025 WNBA season. Holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Seattle Storm (22-21), Indiana can no longer fall below the No. 7 seed. With a little help from the Golden State Valkyries (23-19), who still have two games remaining, the Fever could climb even higher to the No. 6 seed, but No. 5 is out of reach.
"The Indiana Fever have clinched consecutive playoff berths for the first time since 2015-16," wrote ESPN's Alexa Philippou on X. "At minimum they'll be the No. 7 seed in the postseason. A meaningful accomplishment for the team after losing five players to season-ending injuries this summer.
Lynne Roberts and the Los Angeles Sparks, entering Sunday at 19-22, still find themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot with two games left to play. And on Sunday night, they faced Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings in a must-win.
The Fever’s win Sunday means the Sparks can no longer catch Indiana, which has one game left, in the standings. Instead, Roberts' squad will be battling the Seattle Storm for the final playoff spot.
The Storm control their own postseason destiny, while the Sparks do not. To get in, Los Angeles must win out and hope for help from Seattle, which has one game remaining.
So, for the Sparks to make the playoffs, four things must happen:
Following the Wings game, the Sparks will be back in action on Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. ET against the Mercury, another must-win.
