In the throes of another competitive season, every WNBA team wants the due credit and respect from the league.
Despite winning handily against the Dallas Wings on Wednesday night and ranking fourth in the league standings with a 7-4 record, the Phoenix Mercury were not featured in the WNBA's highlights recap video posted to social media on Thursday.
To make matters worse, Wings star rookie Paige Bueckers was featured in the video despite her team's loss.
In response to the omission, the Mercury compiled their own highlights video to post to their X account with a caption that read, "When we won the game but don’t have a single highlight in the 2:24 recap video from the WNBA. So we put together some Mercury highlights from last night’s game in case you watched the other video and didn’t see a single one…because there wasn’t a single one."

The Mercury were led in the win over the Wings by Satou Sabally. The 27-year-old forward contributed 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, nine rebounds, two assists and one steal. She is the team's leading scorer this season, averaging 20.5 points per game.
Mercury veteran guard Kahleah Copper also posted a reply telling the league to "do better." The 30-year-old and the team's leading scorer last season underwent a left knee arthroscopy and has missed several weeks. Copper has only appeared in one game this season.
Many fans came to the Mercury's defense on social media, agreeing that the franchise deserved more respect and recognition, and the league seems to be giving preferential treatment to Bueckers.
"Wake it up!!! @WNBA do better. @CathyEngelbert please resign . You drop the ball consistently it’s sickening. Pack your bags & go please @CathyEngelbert," said an impassioned fan.
"WNBA have other narratives to push… wnba leadership is such a joke," said another.
"Don’t worry, WNBA splicing together a highlight of Angel Reese miraculously not bricking a layup while we speak," read one reply.
"This earns a follow. Fever fan here, and I’m a big fan of how Phoenix runs their franchise. First-Class organization. Second-best social media Admin in the W (Fever Admin, obvi )," noted a fan.
"Admin cooked the WNBA ," joked another fan.
"Wild. This league and its “fanbase” is fascinated with two players that are on teams with a combined record of 3-16 with no hope of playoffs. To be fair, at least one of the players is legit, but still crazy nobody cares about wins and losses in this league," read a reply.
The teams of the WNBA are currently participating in the Commissioner's Cup, an in-season competition where players compete for a $500,000 prize pool given to the Cup's winner and a championship trophy. As part of the Cup, each team partners with a local organization or charity to support their cause.
Next up, the Mercury will travel to Las Vegas to play the Aces on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.
