Ring of Honor's Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event took place live last night from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA, in front of a lively and spirited South Philly crowd. The main event featured Ring of Honor Women's Champion Athena, approaching a record-breaking 1,000-day reign as champion against interim Ring of Honor Women's World Television Champion Mina Shirakawa.
As the 2300 Arena is a historic wrestling venue, legendary as the home of ECW, one former ECW Original made an appearance during Athena's entrance with Billie Starkz: The Blue Meanie. During the Ring of Honor post-show press conference, Athena answered TheSportster's question regarding Meanie's appearance and doing his famous "Meanie Dance" with him.
During her entrance before her main event match, Athena entered with her minion, Billie Starkz, who generally dances to the ring, much to Athena's chagrin. Just before she walked down the ramp to the ring, Starkz introduced The Blue Meanie to join them at the ring, and the trio hit the Meanie Dance at the entrance.
After walking and entering the ring, Meanie then saw her opponent, Mina Shirakawa, in the ring and began dancing with her. Athena was outraged and screamed at Meanie to leave the ring immediately before beginning the match.
The Blue Meanie, as much as I hated him dancing with Mina, when I used to do long car rides, me and my husband - love you, Matt - we would do the Blue Meanie dance or random songs time and time again. It goes with everything, and it's so awesome.
Athena was successful in her championship defense against Shirakawa in a high-flying and impressive main event, setting the stage for her to reach 1,000 days as ROH Women's World Champion. Athena said she was very excited at the chance to have Meanie be a part of her main event entrance, and that Billie Starkz was responsible for putting it all together.
When this all popped up and transpired, Billie organized everything. She organized the dance team, which I feel like she did a way better job than Lexi did the last time we had our dance team around. It was really cool. When I found out about it, I was extremely giddy.
Athena says that, although she was less than pleased with The Blue Meanie's dancing with Mina Shirakawa, she has nothing but love for him. She says she first met Meanie shortly after leaving WWE, and recalls how wonderful and kind he was, in spite of what she says was an awkward first interaction.
I think my interaction was, 'Hi, I dance [your dance] to [every] song in my car, bye!' and I left because I'm awkward when I meet people. I really am. But when it happened today, Billie will tell you, I was on cloud nine because Sunday is my birthday. I was just like, 'This is the best birthday present ever.' It's really cool to have him [a] part [of it].
Athena reiterates that she hates dancing, but The Blue Meanie gets a pass to dance because of everything he's done for wrestling, the 2300 Arena, and the City of Philadelphia.
It's really cool just to have someone as historic as him, that has done the world for this building, for the company himself, to give him a spotlight. It's really cool to be able to just be a part of that. I'm immensely happy. I can't put it into words right now because I'm going to go home and watch that clip on repeat, I think. If anyone wants to gif that for me, love you.
