There have been a lot of gross on-screen angles throughout WWE history, but one of the more memorable ones in recent history saw a helpless Roman Reigns having dog food poured over his head. Turns out the story behind how that angle came together makes the whole thing even more disgusting, as detailed by the man pouring the dog food, Baron Corbin.
As part of Reigns and Corbin's feud in 2019, there was a segment on SmackDown where, while handcuffed to the ring post, Corbin and Dolph Ziggler poured dog food over the man who would go on to become the longest-reigning World Champion for the past three decades. Corbin, who has since been released by WWE, revealed to Fightful that the dog food being poured over Reigns' head that night was real.
.@TomPestock told Fightful's In The Weeds that an extra got dog food poured on him during the Roman Reigns feud on WWE SmackDown because Vince McMahon wanted to see what it would look like coming out of the can.“This is not a pitching thing. This is a, ‘Hey, this is what we’re… pic.twitter.com/M442XDM8gC— Fightful Wrestling (@Fightful) September 7, 2025
"It was legit dog food, and it smelled God awful. I was trying not to vomit while I was putting it on him. If you watch the clip, I’m making a weird face because it smelled so bad," Corbin said. He also noted that it wasn't a pitch to those involved, either. Vince McMahon told them what was going to happen, and they had to go along with it.
That wasn't before McMahon tested the angle out on someone backstage first. Also revealed by Corbin, to see what it would look like on TV, McMahon grabbed an extra backstage and poured dog food over their head. All of the bad of the angle without any of the payoff, since there weren't even any cameras there to catch the moment.
At least the poor extra wasn't covered in dog food for nothing, I guess, as it must have looked good enough backstage for McMahon to approve the segment and have it take place for real on SmackDown, likely a few hours later, knowing McMahon's penchant for leaving booking and planning until the last possible minute. I'd just like to know who that extra was, as a lot of the time, they go on to become notable names.
It's been ten months since Corbin was released by WWE, and the former US Champion has started getting a little more open when it comes to revealing some of the company's inside secrets. On top of the dog food story, he also recently discussed how it isn't a coincidence that WWE pulls Superstars off the road when it's time to negotiate their contracts. Corbin was also touched by John Cena shouting him out via the use of his End of Days finisher at Clash in Paris.
