Becky Lynch defeated Maxxine Dupri during a recent episode of WWE Raw. She then delivered a cheap shot to Natalya. Although Becky is the current WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion, her championship run has been lackluster.

Becky Lynch’s Run Since WrestleMania 41

WWE Superstar Becky Lynch, known as “The Man,” returned at WrestleMania 41 after her last match on the May 27, 2024, episode of Raw. She teamed with Lyra Valkyria to defeat Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, capturing the Women’s Tag Team Championships.

However, after losing the titles the following night on Raw, Becky turned heel and attacked Lyra. This sparked an engaging storyline centered around Lyra’s Women’s Intercontinental Championship.

In a shocking turn of events, Becky defeated Lyra at Money in the Bank 2025 to win the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. She solidified her reign by defeating Lyra again in a Street Fight at SummerSlam 2025.

As part of the match stipulation, Lyra cannot challenge for the title as long as Becky remains champion. Since then, Becky’s storyline has been underwhelming.

The Lackluster Booking of WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch

During the post-SummerSlam episode of Raw, Nikki Bella interrupted Becky Lynch. Becky took verbal shots at Nikki, referencing her past relationship with John Cena, and even attacked the Hall of Famer after their promo. However, WWE abruptly halted this storyline and instead booked Becky in a match against Maxxine Dupri this week. When Natalya checked on Dupri after the match, Becky attacked her as well.

It is surprising that WWE would bring back a Hall of Famer like Nikki Bella for a single episode and then abandon the storyline. With Clash in Paris fast approaching, WWE must ensure that Becky defends her title against one or more worthy opponents.

Since winning the championship from Lyra, Becky’s only significant storyline has been with her former tag team partner. This does not complement her exceptional skills, as the talented Irish star could elevate other superstars, helping them break into the main event scene.

How WWE Can Elevate the Women’s Intercontinental Championship?

WWE introduced the Women’s Intercontinental Championship in 2024, with Lyra Valkyria becoming the inaugural champion on the January 13, 2025, episode of Raw. While Chyna was the first woman to win the Intercontinental Championship, she captured the men’s title by defeating Jeff Jarrett, cementing her place in wrestling history. WWE can never erase her legacy from the memory of fans.

To enhance the prestige of the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, WWE should feature the title in high-stakes, extreme matches.

The Street Fight at SummerSlam was a step in the right direction, but incorporating matches like TLC, Last Woman Standing, Hardcore, or Fatal Four-Way could generate more excitement around the title.

Becky could elevate superstars like Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez while involving other deserving talents who have yet to showcase their potential to the WWE Universe.

This approach would benefit Becky as well, establishing her as a workhorse champion. Alongside her husband, Seth Rollins, she could make the title immensely valuable while holding the gold.
