Becky Lynch may be telling the world that she is "the greatest female wrestler of all time", and it's not just her saying it. But Michael Cole doesn't think 'The Man' is the greatest female wrestler in the world.
Becky Lynch has undoubtedly staked her claim as the best women's wrestler in pro wrestling history, having become a seven-time Women's World Champion and currently holding the Women's Intercontinental Championship. She was victorious in the first-ever all-female WrestleMania main event, defeating Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in a triple threat match.
It's not just Lynch saying this, as Sports Illustrated and Bleacher Report are saying she is the very best we have seen in the ring. She will undoubtedly feel she remains the cream of the crop in this day and age, but Cole disagrees.
The iconic WWE commentator believes the best women's wrestler on the planet is one of her rivals on RAW. He said during WWE's Wrestlepalooza PLE on Saturday (September 20): "I believe that you are looking at the greatest women’s wrestler on the planet today."
Iyo Sky made her entrance and faced Stephanie Vaquer for the Women's World Championship, coming up short against La Primera. But it was one of the best matches of the night and another excellent contest that the Genius of the Sky can add to an ever-growing list of incredibly entertaining matches.
The 35-year-old wows fans every time she steps in the ring, and her win against Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair in a triple threat match at WrestleMania earlier this year justifies Cole's claim. But it also highlights the depth of talent in the women's division at the moment, as an all-time great such as Lynch is competing alongside the very best in the world, like Iyo.
Becky Lynch and Iyo Sky have only faced one another once in singles competition, and that was back in March 2023 when their roles were reversed. Lynch was a top babyface while Iyo was a heel as part of Bayley's Damage CTRL stable.
The Man picked up the victory on that occasion, pinning the Japanese star on RAW ahead of a six-woman tag match at WrestleMania 39. A rivalry between the duo is untouched and could be in the pipeline given their ongoing storylines.
Lynch is dealing with a returning AJ Lee and has been brought into the war between real-life husband Seth Rollins and his foe CM Punk. She was on the losing end of a mixed tag match at Wrestlepalooza but remains Intercontinental Champion.
Iyo lost to Vaquer on the same night, and her future is of interest as she goes to the back of the line for the Women's World Championship. She does have issues to attend with regarding a heel Asuka, but eventually challenging Lynch for the Intercontinental Championship is a real possibility.
