Bret Hart Claims WWE Snubbed Him at SummerSlam 2023
Shelby Reeves/Chillicothe Gazette / USA TODAY NETWORK

Ahead of their SummerSlam PLE, WWE took a look back at the best matches that came from the premium live event. The number one match went to Bret Hart versus the late and great The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith at SummerSlam 1992. So, naturally, WWE would invite Hart to the event, but according to the WWE Hall of Famer, that’s not what happened.

Bret Hart Feels WWE Doesn’t Appreciate Him

While doing an interview at the Vaughan Comic Con over the weekend, Hart claimed that he was invited to SummerSlam, but once he got there, he was told there wasn’t actually a seat for him. Naturally, the incident rubbed him the wrong way. He said:

“They invited me down…told me they wanted me to be in the crowd. And then they told me once I got there, they told me they didn’t have any seats. But I noticed Kevin Nash got a seat. Maybe I finally realized that I don’t feel they fully appreciate me, even after Hulk [Hogan’s] passing. There’s no certain appreciation for anything I did.” (H/T: F4Wonline)

When Hart brought up Hulk Hogan, it’s a well-known fact that Hart wasn’t a big fan of the late star for reasons that included Hogan not putting him over in WWE and holding him back in WCW. In all honesty, Bret holds plenty of grudges, and some do have their valid reasons.

Bret Hart's Past Words About Hulk Hogan

The Hitman isn’t afraid to be vocal about people he’s not a fan of. Hogan, of course, is one of those people. This past April, in an interview, Hart noted how he had a lack of influence on modern wrestling. Hart simply said:

“You don't see anybody imitating Hulk Hogan or Ultimate Warrior.”

In a more recent interview that took place during SummerSlam weekend with The Ring Wrestling Show, Hart went into further detail about the feeling that Hulk Hogan roadblocked his WCW career.

“I always will shake my head and wonder what it was that why he was such a roadblock for me, like he wouldn’t do anything for me. And he made sure, and I know this to be a fact, but he made sure that, like when I was in WCW, he made sure that they didn’t do anything with me, like, ‘don’t do anything with them. Just leave them, let them sit in the bench’… WCW would fly me down in first class, first class airfare, first class car rental, first class hotel, first class everything. And then when I got to the building, they’d tell me I was off and I’d just fly home.” (H/T: WrestleZone )

Bret also shared that the breakdown of their friendship was when he first won the WWE Heavyweight World Title, and that’s when he said, Hogan saw him as “the enemy."
