WWE's Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio suffered an injury scare at AAA Guerra de Titanes last week, and there were fears that he may have to undergo surgery. The AAA Mega Champion has been one of WWE's top stars this year but a spot involving his father, Rey Mysterio, led to a shoulder issue.
Dominik Mysterio wasn't in action on WWE RAW last Monday, although he was part of a backstage segment involving The Judgment Day. The lineup for tonight's episode of the red brand doesn't mention the IC Champion, but he will be expected to appear in some fashion.
The latest update on Dom's situation is a positive one as he is said to be in "good spirits" and WWE is believed to be taking a cautious approach with him, per Bodyslam.net. They won't want to risk aggravating the shoulder problem ahead of the Road to WrestleMania 42.
Dom became a two-time Intercontinental Champion at Survivor Series last month when he defeated John Cena in the 17-time world champion's penultimate WWE match. This was a significant win for the 28-year-old and came after Liv Morgan returned and helped him secure the victory.
Liv and Dom have continued their on-screen relationship, but The Judgment Day has been a man down. JD McDonagh underwent hand surgery earlier this month and will be taking time to recover.
The turn of the year brings with it the build to WrestleMania, and the Royal Rumble is the first stop on the road to the Show of Shows. You'd expect Dom to be one of the 30 participants in the Rumble match, although it's unlikely he'll win and book a main event match at Allegiant Stadium.
That doesn't mean he won't be involved in a high-profile match, though, as he may well still be holding the IC title come April 2026. It makes sense for WWE to have him defend the gold in Paradise, Nevada.
A potential rematch against Rey Mysterio for the IC title seems the likeliest option for WWE right now, given their lengthy feud remains one of the most entertaining storylines. They were set to face off at Survivor Series, but plans changed, and Cena instead won the title on RAW before losing it in San Diego, California.
Another potential opponent could be Finn Balor if WWE decide to bring The Judgment Day to an end before Mania and have Balor turn face. The likes of Penta, Sheamus, or even an NXT call-up such as Je'Von Evans could be other candidates.
