Despite what anyone thinks of him, most can say that Dominik Mysterio did what not many had the gall to do: step up to the best ever in the form of John Cena at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2025, in the “Never Seen 17’s” final PLE bout. Granted, Mysterio did put himself in this situation by running his mouth, leading to him losing the Intercontinental Championship.

Mysterio feels like Cena needed to face him before he went off into the sunset to bolster his legacy. That’s a highly confident statement from “Dirty Dom,” considering Cena has literally nothing to prove. However, Mysterio was right about one thing: he did somewhat give Cena one more accolade to achieve, as the “Champ” would become a WWE Grand Slam Champion by prying away the workhorse championship in Massachusetts.

Naturally, Mysterio wanted a rematch, and Cena was more than willing to give it to him in San Diego. To the surprise of no one, these two put on a show, arguably way better than their initial meeting on WWE Monday Night Raw.

The Young Mysterio kicked it into another gear in his hometown, while the leader of the “Cenation” proved to everyone why he’s the undisputed “G.O.A.T. of WWE.”

The deck was stacked against Cena from the get-go. Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez got involved, with Dominik Mysterio feigning an injury when he hit a Hurricanrana on Cena on the outside. While getting attended to, Rodriguez would deliver a Tejana Bomb to Cena, followed up by a Pop Rocks from Perez. Mysterio would go for the 619 and a Froh Splash, but WWE official Chad Patton would even the playing field, refusing to count and ejecting Perez and Rodriguez.

The champ would bounce back, almost getting Dom with an STF and Attitude Adjustment on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, an errant Shoulder Block would hit the official. The Judgment Day would capitalize on this one, with Finn Balor and JD McDonagh beating up Cena.

John would not let this happen, delivering a Double Attitude Adjustment as McDonagh and Balor were stacked on his shoulders. Cena would hit another Attitude Adjustment, but the referee was still out. But it wasn’t a referee who came out, but a very familiar face to help Mysterio. With one last 619 and Frog Splash, Dominik Mysterio is the #AndNEW Intercontinental Champion.

Dominik Mysterio has finally done it, making good on his promise. In the final WWE PLE appearance of John Cena, he regained the Intercontinental Title, bringing back home this much-coveted prize, and in the process, laid claim to beating the best WWE has ever seen at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2025.
