Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu: WWE SmackDown Showdown
Jacob Fatu makes his WWE entrance
  • McIntyre rejects reports Fatu is sidelined until 2026 — says their SmackDown match happens Oct. 17.
  • He vows to win, blames Fatu for barging into his business and pledges to derail the Fatu hype train.
  • WWE schedule still lists McIntyre vs. Fatu; Cody opens and Charlotte/Alexa defend — fight likely to air.

Drew McIntyre doesn’t believe the reports that formerWWEUnited States Champion Jacob Fatu is going to be out of action “well into 2026” because of a “non-wrestling-related injury." He instead believes the match will happen today, October 17, on WWE SmackDown.

Drew McIntyre Says This Match “Will Happen Tomorrow”

McIntyre shared a video on X on Thursday, October 16, where he discussed how the match will happen and how he has to win it. McIntyre blamed Fatu for the match, since he was the one who got into his business. He said:

“I’m back in my home away from home recently. Looking through my head right now, but I guess it’s always the same result — no matter what happens to me, I don’t give up. Call it stubbornness, call it determination, I don’t care. The one thing you will call me is justified. The latest brick wall put in front of me is Jacob Fatu, one of the baddest guys on the roster. This match is going to happen tomorrow and I have to win. It didn’t have to happen, though. Jacob, you stepped up in my business a few weeks ago when I had nothing to do with you, and then you dropped me with one damn calf.” (h/t: Fightful)

He’s not wrong, though. Fatu made his WWE SmackDown return on September 26 to confront McIntyre. This was after he had been gone since August 15. The last match that they had was a WWE United States Title Fatal Four Way, when Fatu was the champion. LA Knight and Damian Priest were also in the match that took place at WWE Backlash 2025.

Drew McIntyre Wants To Derail The Jacob Fatu Hype Train

McIntyre went on in his online promo to say how he hated Fatu’s family. McIntyre has had plenty of issues with current and former members of The Bloodline/MTF. Not only that, but he’s tired of the “hype train.” It’s no secret that Fatu is a fan favorite, and McIntyre is a very bitter man. He added:

“If that wasn’t bad enough, the following week, you ran your mouth. You’re no different than everyone else in a lot of ways. I mean, you’re a hypocrite. He literally said, ‘Drew, you run your mouth too much’ while running your mouth. I’ll give you your due, I see a lot of me in you. I mean, I flew all the way across the world to drop you because you pumped me out. I guarantee that if it was the other way around, you’d do exactly the same. I hate, hate your family and I’ve been in the ring with all of them. If you’re as bad as you say you are, you’re better than every one of them. At least that’s what I think you’re saying, you talk in mostly soundbites and catchphrases that I can barely follow. This match, it’s a guaranteed war. This is a match nobody should miss. It’s a match that I have to win. Tomorrow, Drew McIntyre derails the Jacob Fatu hype train by any means necessary.”

It’s worth mentioning that WWE.com still has the match on its list for tonight, and 18 hours ago, WWE shared Nick Aldis's rundown on the show, and he brought up Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu. So McIntyre might not be so wrong to believe that he will get his revenge on Fatu. Also, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is set to open the show, and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss will defend the title against Sol Ruca and Zaria. So as of this writing, it does look like fans will see Jacob Fatu vs. Drew McIntyre.
