In life, Eddie Guerrero was one of the most popular WWE superstars during the Ruthless Aggression Era. That tragically came to an end when Guerrero passed away on November 13, 2005 in his hotel room at just the age of 38. Although his cause of death was revealed to be from heart disease due to years of using steroids and painkillers, that hasn't stopped some cruel fans from blaming his passing on his final match, when Mr. Kennedy hit him over the head with a steel chair during an episode of SmackDown. One of Guerrero's friends, JBL, spoke out in an attempt to put the conspiracy theory to rest.

JBL Says A Chair Shot Did Not Cause Eddie Guerrero's Death

With the 20th anniversary of Eddie Guerrero's passing coming next week, his life and death were talked about on Something to Wrestle With in a conversation between Bruce Prichard and JBL. It was here that John Bradshaw Layfield denied the conspiracy held among some fans that the brutal chair shot he took from Mr. Kennedy played a role in the tragedy.

“You know, guys have gotten 1000s of chair shots over the years, and guys don’t die from chair shots, you know? And so I get why the conspiracy gets put together. Hard chair shot you die, however long later it was. And I get why people could put, you know, two and two together like that, and get that. But nobody at the time thought that, and I certainly don’t believe that...

"Chavo’s told the story about finding him in his bathroom. You know, he got up in the morning, brushed his teeth, and just died. You know, his heart just quit. His life was over. " (h/t WrestlingNews.co)

Mr. Kennedy Spoke About Fans Blaming Him For Eddie Guerrero's Death

During an interview with Chris Van Vliet earlier this year, the host brought up to Mr. Kennedy the conspiracy among fans that he caused Eddie Guerrero's death with a steel chair shot. He said:

"Going into it, he said, 'Hit me. Don't hold back. Hit me.' Yes, sir. So I hit him, and when he came back through the curtain he goes, 'Maybe a little less.' No, I don't believe I caused Eddie's death. I've heard that from people."

Some wrestling fans can't accept that a larger-than-life and beloved superstar could just die, with his heart giving out in a hotel room when he wasn't even 40 yet and still looked so healthy. Surely there had to be something more to it, right? However, by putting the blame on Mr. Kennedy, when an autopsy two decades ago revealed the real cause of death, it only hurts one wrestler and creates a false ending for another.
