Fans Split Over Decision To End Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena Feud At Wrestlepalooza
WWE

John Cena faced Brock Lesnar for the first time in over a decade at Wrestlepalooza, and the match was reminiscent of the infamous one the two of them had at SummerSlam 2014. Lesnar destroyed Cena quickly, making the retiring legend look pretty bad in the process. Now it seems like, with only three or four matches to go, Cena isn't going to be getting a rematch, and WWE fans aren't sure how to feel about it.

John Cena Reportedly Won't Be Getting A Rematch Against Brock Lesnar

Claims that there are no plans for Cena and Lesnar to wrestle again come from Wrestling Observer Live. Apparently, Wrestlepalooza was a one-and-done situation, and WWE really meant it when it billed the match as the final time the two of them would meet. That has left fans feeling pretty conflicted as, while most don't want another one of Cena's final matches to be wasted on Lesnar, it has also left them wondering what was the point in having the match pan out the way it did if there was never going to be any closure?

After watching their match at Wrestlepalooza, my immediate thought was Cena would grab a mic on Raw and challenge Lesnar to a rematch at Crown Jewel, weathering an early storm and ultimately slaying The Beast before moving on to wrestle his final handful of matches. That's clearly what other fans thought the plan was, too, and now it seems that's not happening, they can't help wondering why WWE bothered bringing Lesnar back at all.

WWE Fans Aren't Sure How To Feel About Cena Not Getting A Rematch

Others are framing it as more of a glass-half-full situation. Cena will presumably be competing at Crown Jewel - he's been advertised for the show - and now we get to see him face somebody else in what will almost certainly be a more entertaining match than the one we got at Wrestlepalooza. Forget the Lesnar match ever happened, and let's all enjoy Cena's final few matches before he retires and never wrestles again.

It is starting to sound like even WWE wasn't sure what the Cena/Lesnar situation was going to be, right up until the match itself. A separate report claims that, up until the day of Wrestlepalooza, the plan was for Cena to beat The Beast Incarnate. That means the idea to flip the script and turn it into a squash match was made hours before the bell rang. Plans can change again, of course, and that Lesnar rematch could still happen. As long as we get the AJ Styles match Cena teased on Monday night, I don't really mind what WWE does with the remainder of Cena's final dates.
