Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther is ready for his return. Gunter took to social media on the morning of Monday, November 17, hours before his expected WWE return.
As noted, Gunther is set to make his WWE return later today at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. Gunther is going to be facing Je’Von Evans in the Last Time Is Now Tournament. The tournament is, of course, to find John Cena’s final opponent for Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. He took to Instagram and shared a promo ahead of the match. Gunther said:
“The Ring General is back on duty to raise the quality in WWE. I’ve had a bit of a break, fixed my nose and I’m now here in the beautiful Switzerland at the airport in Zurich, I’m about to head to New York City. There couldn’t be better timing to come back and participate in the tournament that will determine John Cena’s final opponent at Madison Square Garden.”
Since the news of John Cena’s retirement match, reports have said that Gunther was in the running to be his final opponent. Gunther had been gone since losing the Heavyweight title at SummerSlam against CM Punk. Punk would lose the title in a matter of seconds against Seth Rollins, who had successfully cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase. Flash forward, Rollins would have to relinquish the title due to a shoulder injury, and now Punk is the champion again. Punk became the WWE World Heavyweight Champion after defeating Jey Uso for the vacant title on Saturday, November 1, at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The November 17 episode of WWE Raw marks John Cena’s final WWE Raw appearance. Cena is expected to open the show. The other The Last Time Is Now Tournament first-round match is Solo Sikoa versus a mystery opponent. Also, Becky Lynch is once again defending her Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Maxxine Dupri. Will it be Dupri’s time? Winning a title at Madison Square Garden would be big for the WWE star.
Nikki Bella is also set to address her attack from last Monday (November 10) to Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer. Punk and Jey Uso are also scheduled to appear on the show. So it’s going to be an unforgettable show.
