In a shocking ending to Monday Night Raw, Gunther defeated Jey Uso to become the new World Heavyweight Champion for the second time. The title change didn't include a Money in the Bank cash-in, a surprise return, or a serious twist. This was just Gunther defeating Uso in a clean main event bout. It sent shockwaves across the wrestling world and it appears to mark the end of Main Event Jey Uso as the face of the red brand.

The match ended convincingly, Gunther applying the sleeper hold which forced Uso to pass out. Standing tall, Gunther got the pyro treatment from WWE, signifying this is a major moment in WWE programming and this had been planned going into the show. Jey Uso's reign will be remembered as both entertaining and polarizing. He was extremely popular, but WWE's ratings on Netflix might have played a role in the title change, or a new storyline direction that will see another babyface chase the title might have motivated the creative decision.
It was a win few had circled on their "bingo card," and one that is instantly one of the more notable title changes in recent WWE history. Many had expected a Goldberg return or Seth Rollins Money in the Bank cash-in bid, maybe even involving LA Knight. Instead, the night ended with a clean finish and a new champion.
Gunther's world title is his second. The timing of the change is intriguing as several fans were commenting on social media that The Ring General was being overlooked. This win pushes him right back up to the top of the mountain, cementing his status as WWE's top talent.
It will be intriguing to see if Gunther's win is a transitional move or a course correction and the start of a plan to give him another lengthy run. He showed hi s dominance with a record-breaking Intercontinental Championship run.
As for Jey Uso, where this takes the charismatic former Bloodline member is unclear. He captured the hearts of fans with his underdog journey to the top, and his reign, though brief, was a deserving nod from WWE for years of hard work and elevating himself to a position where WWE could entrust him with the ball.
Gunther's title win won't sit well with everyone, given how quickly Uso's title run ended.
