Here’s Why WWE Must Book John Cena Vs Dominik Mysterio

A little over two months is how long John Cena will be an active WWE wrestler. This year has been full of surprises and quite a few dull moments in Cena’s career, all things considered. He started this year on a high note. He gave us many great moments, such as his heel turn at Elimination Chamber against Cody Rhodes, and more recently, his incredible main event match against The American Nightmare at SummerSlam.

Everyone can agree that Cena has nothing left to prove in his wrestling career. He’s the most accomplished wrestler in the WWE today, and for this reason, fans aren’t happy with how Triple H and Co. have handled his retirement tour. It seems WWE doesn’t know where they are going with Cena, and they don’t have a lot of time left. They can still try to salvage his retirement tour by giving him a proper send-off. Only a few superstars will get to work with Cena now, and here’s why Dominik Mysterio has to be one of them.

John Cena Vs Dominik Mysterio Needs To Happen This Year

Recently, Bodyslam.net reported that WWE is considering a John Cena vs Dominik Mysterio match post-Crown Jewel. Cena will have only four dates left after this event, and they’ll likely want to build this proper storyline first before doing this match.

Dominik is the current WWE Intercontinental Champion, as well as the AAA Mega Champion. Interestingly enough, Cena has never won the Intercontinental Title in his WWE career. It’s the only thing he needs to achieve Grand Slam status in WWE.

Some weeks back, during an appearance on the Rap On Wrestling podcast, Dominik Mysterio even challenged Cena to come and get the IC Title from him if he really wants to become a Grand Slam Champion.

“I mean, he can try, and what’s that thing he says? If you want some, come get some. You know what? John, you know where I’m at. If you want to come finish your Grand Slam quest, these little side quests you’re on, I’m here all day. Every Monday, you know where I’ll be.” (H/T Fightful)

One can argue that, at this point in his career, Grand Slam status doesn’t mean much for John Cena, and they’re right. But a match against Mysterio would still be a good idea. Dominik is young and has the potential to become a WWE Champion in the future. In Cena’s last few matches, he’s only worked against established stars. If he ends up facing Mysterio, even if he goes over him, it’d still give Dirty Dom the rub from a legend.

There are multiple ways WWE can do a match between them. It doesn’t even have to be a retirement match between these two. They can just do a regular match and have someone interfere (it could even be Cena’s final opponent) and give Cena the loss.

Dom being Dom, everyone knows that if he gets even a technical victory against The Cenation Leader, he’ll use it for the bragging rights.

For now, Cena is focused on his upcoming match against AJ Styles at the Crown Jewel PLE. Do you want to see John Cena vs Dominik Mysterio before his retirement?
