The world of professional wrestling in 2025 is dominated by stars like Cody Rhodes , Seth Rollins , Will Ospreay , and Kenny Omega , yet many consider former Women’s World Champion Iyo Sky the best in the world, thanks to her stellar run that began in 2023. And it seems that Blake Monroe seems to agree.
Sky’s in-ring skill was already well established through her work in Japan and her NXT run before she made a major impact on the main roster. Monroe acknowledged this in a recent interview with TV Insider’s Scott Fishman, reflecting on her own time in Japan and citing Sky as the best wrestler in the world.
The English wrestler recalled the early days of their career, describing how they were immediately captivated by Japanese women’s wrestling, particularly the costumes and presentation. Impressed by performers like Sky and Giulia, whom she regarded as the best in presentation, Monroe made a spontaneous decision to move to Japan.
What was meant to be a short stay turned into an almost daily training routine at the dojo, competing in three to four matches a week and fully immersing herself in the Japanese wrestling scene.
I already knew this world, so seeing the rest of the world find out that Iyo Sky is the best wrestler in the world, not just women’s wrestling. I was like, ‘yeah, catch up.’ I’m excited to wrestle them and see what they can bring out of me. I’m just going to learn so much. I always had fun with everyone I wrestled in Japan.

It has been a huge couple of years for Sky since winning the Women’s Money in the Bank briefcase in mid-2023, including two WrestleMania title bouts against the likes of Bayley, Rhea Ripley , Bianca Belair , and complemented by multiple world title reigns.
She recently delivered a classic match against Stephanie Vaquer at Wrestlepalooza for the vacant Women’s World title. Currently engaged in a rivalry with the Kabuki Warriors alongside Ripley, fans are eager to see how Sky continues to make the most of her dominant run.
Iyo Sky is renowned for her fearless, high-risk style, particularly in WarGames matches, where she has jumped off the cage multiple times with a trash can over her upper body and head.
Speaking to Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Sky revealed that she would empty a trash can ahead of her WarGames spots to practice safely at the WWE Performance Center, highlighting her dedication to perfecting these death-defying stunts.
Yes, totally [I practiced it]. Because in my head, I think of course I can do that. Yeah, put on the trash can and do the back flip. Feels easy, but actually it is such a dangerous move. I went to the WWE Performance Center, and they have a normal trash can. I took off the plastic bag and clean up myself, and make it a little bit cleaner, and I hope nobody was watching what I’m doing.

After successfully landing it, she decided it would also work from the top of the cage, even though it was twice as high. Sky admitted that, despite her fearless reputation, she hadn’t anticipated how disorienting it would be to perform while unable to see inside the dark trash can.
Standing on the edge of the cage, she briefly panicked, realizing the risk of injury. But driven by her determination and the presence of cameras, the former Women’s World Champion pushed through her fear, made the jump, and nailed the move. By the second attempt, she felt calm and confident, having fully conquered her fear.
And it is safe to say the stunt paid off spectacularly. Sky notably performed the move at Survivor Series 2023 and in the same match during her NXT run, leaving fans amazed each time.
