JBL Believes Sami Zayn Deserves a Shot at the World Heavyweight Championship
Sami Zayn and the World Heavyweight and WWE Championships
  • JBL says Sami Zayn should be pushed into the World Heavyweight title picture.
  • Sami has been "right at the edge" for world gold; praised for versatility and ring IQ.
  • Sami is current United States Champion, multi-time titleholder, yet never a World Heavyweight.

WWE Hall of Famer John "Bradshaw" Layfield is known as a person who loves to share his opinions, either good or bad. He’s egotistical, though he does have a lot of accolades to back those up. It’s interesting because everyone’s favorite underdog, Sami Zayn, is also a favorite of JBL's. So much so that he believes the current WWE United States Champion should be a World Heavyweight Champion.

JBL Thinks Sami Zayn Needs To Get In The World Title Picture

The former WWE Champion has temporarily replaced Bruce Prichard on his podcast, Something To Wrestle. On the latest podcast episode, JBL brought up how Zayn has all the characteristics of a champion because he’s “terrific at so many different things.”

“He’s been right at the edge this whole time and for whatever reason he has not gotten it. Yes. 100%.Sami to me is one of the most talented guys I’ve ever been around. He’s a smart guy, he knows how to perform, he knows how to do anything, and he’s been terrific at so many different things that anything you put him in, which, for a world title, you have to have a lot of different shades, and I think he’d be good at it.” (H/T: WrestlePurists)

So maybe JBL has some good points, and WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H should listen to him, since he’s the “Wrestling God.” It’s worth noting that JBL has recently returned to WWE in some capacity. He’s been doing guest commentary for WWE/AAA events. Maybe he can go back to SmackDown commentary and push Zayn. Though he did try to help Baron Corbin...

Sami Zayn’s Pursuit Of Gold

Sami Zayn and the World Heavyweight and WWE Championships

Zayn was most famously in the title picture during his 2023 feud with Roman Reigns. Reigns at the time defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against Zayn on February 18, 2023, at the Elimination Chamber PLE. At the time, fans were really hoping that Zayn was going to get his revenge on his former Tribal Chief, but it, of course, didn’t happen.

While it wasn’t televised, Zayn would actually get another chance at Reigns and his title. It was on October 14, 2023, at a WWE SuperShow. Though it would end the same.

While he’s never been a World Heavyweight Champion, Sami is a four-time International champion, NXT Champion, and has held the WWE Tag Team Titles several times. Zayn is also currently the United States Champion, a first for the 41-year-old. He became the champion only recently. Zayn defeated Solo Sikoa on the August 29 episode of SmackDown. His most recent title defense was last Friday, where he defeated Rey Fenix.
