John Cena vs. Dominik Mysterio: WWE in Talks for Potential Match

According to an exclusive report from Bodyslam.net via WrestlePurists, sources have indicated to the outlet that after Crown Jewel and one of Cena’s final four appearances could include a John Cena Vs. Dominik Mysterio's match. Now this isn’t a confirmed match, just a discussion between WWE officials.

At the moment, Mysterio is currently holding one title from WWE, the Intercontinental Championship, and one from Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, the AAA Mega Championship. The 28-year-old’s last match was winning the AAA Mega Championship from then-champion El Hijo del Vikingo at AAA x WWE Worlds Collide. So he’s been busy lately, doing double duty for WWE and AAA.

Anyway, Cena, as mentioned, after Crown Jewel, will have four matches left. His final match is set for December 13 in Washington, D.C., for Saturday Night’s Main Event. It will be streaming exclusively on Peacock.

Cena and Dominik’s History

The first time the two were ever in the ring together was when they were tag team partners. It was a dark match on the July 23, 2021, episode of WWE SmackDown. The match saw Dominik, Rey Mysterio, and Cena defeat Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, and Roman Reigns. Throughout 2021, Cena would partner with the Mysterios during WWE Supershows and Dark matches on SmackDown.

After Dominik turned heel and joined Judgment Day, the first time they went against each other was on the September 29, 2023, episode of SmackDown. Once again, it was a dark match. The outcome saw Cena beat Dominik. 2024 saw Cena and Dominik in one match against each other. It was the April 8, 2024, episode of RAW, where R-Truth, The Miz, and Cena defeated Judgment Day’s Dominik, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh.

So far this year, 2025, the only match they've had together has been the men's Royal Rumble match. Before facing Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza, Cena faced Logan Paul at Clash in Paris. Fans actually wanted Dominik to be his opponent for Clash in Paris. He's still probably a fan favorite to face Cena in his retirement tour and if so, WWE should make it happen. Dom didn’t have any matches at either Wrestlepalooza or Clash in Paris. His work has been mostly for AAA, which seems to be going well for him. Maybe Cena could face Dom for the AAA Mega Title?
