The when and where (sort of) of John Cena's final match in WWE have been confirmed. NBC has officially confirmed that John Cena’s retirement match will headline Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, 2025, bringing Cena's retirement tour to an end. It will also close the chapter on one of WWE’s most iconic careers.

Cena Will Retire At Saturday Night's Main Event

The event will air in primetime on NBC while streaming live on Peacock. According to the release, “Saturday Night’s Main Event will stream in primetime exclusively on Peacock four times each year, featuring WWE’s top Superstars, rivalries, championship matches, and more.”

Cena, whose retirement tour launched earlier this year under the “Last Time Is Now” theme, has already announced more than 25 farewell appearances. His final bout comes after months of speculation and will be featured in a primetime NBC special expected to draw millions. Saturday Night's Main Event seems a fitting place to say goodbye, considering the history that comes with the show and WWE's desire to bring in as many eyeballs on the show as possible.

The December 13 broadcast is already being billed as a once-in-a-generation moment.

WWE Moving To ESPN With Cena A Big Part Of Things

Meanwhile, ESPN begins its exclusive U.S. coverage of all WWE Premium Live Events this September, starting with the debut of WrestlePalooza on Sept. 20, headlined by Cena against a mystery opponent he hasn’t faced “in more than a decade.” Most believe that the wrestler is Brock Lesnar, who surprisingly returned at SummerSlam and attacked Cena to end the show. Lesnar hasn't been seen since, but he is expected to return to television soon.

As WWE publicly shares its excitement over its partnership with ESPN, the WWE Network library will remain available on Peacock through the end of 2025, and NXT Premium Live Events will be available on Peacock until March 2026.

As for who Cena will wrestle in his final match, rumors are circulating on the Internet, with several opponents plausible. A gauntlet match, pitting Cena against six or seven of WWE's top stars and former adversaries, has also been suggested.
