John Cena suffered a loss to Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza and now has just a handful of scheduled dates as a WWE wrestler, leaving before he retires from in-ring competition in December. The 17-time world champion was on the receiving end of multiple F-5s from the Beast before being pinned in the PLE's opener, and his future is unclear ahead of Crown Jewel next month.
Cena's loss to Lesnar wasn't received well by fans, who questioned why the 48-year-old is nearing the end of his Farewell Tour by losing to one of his biggest rivals. The only dates left on the tour that he has been scheduled for are Crown Jewel (October 11), RAW (November 10 and 17), Survivor Series (November 29) and Saturday Night's Main Event (December 13).
This means Cena has just two more PLEs left before he calls time on his legendary career, including a supposed appearance at Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia. He is not scheduled for any WWE TV over the next three weeks, which could mean he competes in an unannounced match at the PLE in October.
There has been no confirmation of Lesnar appearing at Crown Jewel, although one scenario many could envision is Cena coming for revenge against the Beast, who has seemingly re-aligned with Paul Heyman. Many expect his final PLE match to come as a participant in a WarGames match at Survivor Series in November.
WWE's decision to book a Lesnar victory may indicate that they are keen to proceed with the rivalry. They may look to use Cena's three-week absence to build further a narrative regarding the former UFC heavyweight "retiring" the Greatest of All-Time.
Another potential opponent for John Cena at Crown Jewel is Drew McIntyre , who similarly suffered a loss at Wrestlepalooza. The Scottish Warrior lost to Cody Rhodes in the main event for the WWE Championship.
Rhodes will be busy facing World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins at the PLE in Perth, which means McIntyre will be looking for an opponent. The Scot spoke to Cheap Heat about a possible match with Cena in the last months of his Farewell Tour:
"I wanted Cody Rhodes. He’s the best we’ve got in the ring right now, and I still believe that. But once I beat him at Wrestlepalooza, I’ll be the best. And I want this John Cena. He’s been killing it. He’s going out in a blaze of glory right now with these last couple of matches. Super Cena is back."
Cena had been hailed for some excellent performances in recent months, including his WWE Championship match with Rhodes at SummerSlam. He also earned praise for his victory against Logan Paul at Clash in Paris, but his match with Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza has left much to be admired.
