Jordynne Grace has spent the last two weeks or so topping the headlines. From the news that TNA let her out of her contract early to the updates of her seamlessly moving to WWE, Grace has been the talk of the town. And despite her protestation otherwise, Grace was indeed an entrant in the Women’s Royal Rumble, having an incredible showing and pardon the pun, making an impact in her first official match as a WWE-contracted superstar. Last year, Grace opened the Prohibited Portal, stepping through it on more than one occasion. She became known among WWE fans for her NXT matches during her reign as TNA Women’s Champion.
But there is a whole chapter of Grace’s career that may not be known to the WWE Universe. For those who don’t know much about Grace, Last Word on Pro Wrestling is here to help as we offer a comprehensive look at WWE’s newest female superstar.
A Lifelong Wrestling Fan
Jordynne Grace began her pro wrestling career when she was just 15, but the seeds had been planted long before then. As Grace noted in an interview she did with Muscle and Fitness, she grew up watching wrestling, gravitating toward what had been at that time, the more unconventional female wrestlers. “I think (I liked the stronger girls best) because they were so different from what WWE mostly had then,” Grace told the website, noting that wrestlers like Chyna and Beth Phoenix were some of the ladies she looked up to. “It’s extremely great to see those types of women. We should appreciate diversity in terms of race, height, and nationality. I think it’s important for kids to see that because they can relate to it.”
And relate to it Grace did. After seeing the strong, powerful women in WWE, Grace knew she wanted to be just like them, so at 12 years old she picked up her first set of weights in an effort to start developing the muscles she’d need to succeed in professional wrestling. By 14, Grace started hitting the mat, taking part in both amateur and pro wrestling training, using the former to help make herself that much better in the ring. By the time she first debuted, it was a perfect fit. “I watched so much wrestling as a kid that when I finally got in there, it kinda felt like second nature,” Grace said.
To Indie-finity and Beyond
Between 2011-12, Jordynne Grace made her professional wrestling debut, taking part in small local independent shows in her native Texas. She would hone her craft over those first few years, wrestling for promotions including the NWA, IWA-Mid South, and Beyond Wrestling among others. It was Beyond where Grace really began to put her name on the map. Between 2014-19, Grace called Beyond home, wrestling close to 40 matches in that span. While that may not seem like much, for an indie schedule it’s quite a lot, especially for promotions that only run fewer than 15 shows a year. Grace recorded some of her best matches in Beyond including a series of intergender contests. In addition to her time in Beyond, Grace wrestled for Atomic Championship Wrestling, Canadian Wrestling’s Elite, Pro Wrestling EVE, Progress Wrestling, and NOVA Pro Wrestling among others.
On September 1, 2018, Grace took part in the All In battle royale, becoming the only female to wrestle in the match. She acquitted herself well, eliminating Brian Cage before ultimately being thrown out by Bully Ray. This was really Grace’s first match in front of a stage so big and shortly after, it was announced by TNA/Impact that she had signed a full-time contract with the promotion. During her time on the indies, Grace won seven titles, establishing herself as one of the top names on the circuit.
A History-Making Impact
Grace wrestled her first match in TNA in October 2018, just over a month after taking part in the All In battle royale. By 2019, Grace was a fixture in the promotion, wrestling over 40 matches and quickly defining herself as one of the best in the company. Grace quickly impressed, rising the ranks and earning a Knockouts title opportunity against Taya Valkyrie. Grace was unsuccessful throughout the year, coming close by falling just short of earning gold. As 2020 rolled around however, Grace was poised and ready for her moment. In her third attempt, she finally defeated Valkyrie, beginning a near six month reign with the belt. Grace was dominant before dropping the title to Deonna Purazzo in July of that year. She received a rematch for the title, taking part in TNA’s first-ever women’s 30-minute ironwoman match. While Grace was unable to regain her championship, the match was incredible and showed just how strong the Knockouts Division had become.
In April 2021, Jordynne Grace won her second title with TNA, securing the women’s tag team championships alongside Rachael Ellering. The two didn’t hold the belts for long, but Grace would only have to wait a few months for her third title reign. In October, Grace won an intergender match for the Impact Digital Media Championship, becoming the inaugural champion. In doing so, she also became the first wrestler to claim the Knockouts Triple Crown. Graced defended the Digital Media Championships against both male and female wrestlers before she dropped the title during an intense feud with Matt Cardona.
In January 2022, Grace began her best run with the promotion, first taking part in the first-ever Women’s Ultimate X match in January and the Men’s Ultimate X match in April. In June, Grace earned back the Knockouts title in the first-ever Queen of the Mountain match. She defended that title six times, including in a last woman standing match and street fight. Grace lost the title in a title vs career match to Mickie James and then fell short to regain it in a vacant match against Purazzo, reigniting their storied rivalry. Grace then went on to win the Call Your Shot Gauntlet, defeating an incredible list of male competitors at Bound for Glory.
Opening the Prohibited Portal
Jordynne Grace began 2024 by regaining the TNA Knockouts Championship for a third time. And then a few short weeks later, shocked the world when she showed up, title in hand, to take part in the WWE Women’s Royal Rumble. Grace entered at five and lasted almost 20 minutes. She even had the opportunity to reignite her feud with Trinity (Naomi), who she had beaten for the title prior. Grace’s appearance in the rumble broke the internet as it were, but it led to so much more as she would take part in four matches in NXT, winning three of them. Grace created a portal that led to WWE and TNA entering into an agreement to continue to share their talent over the next several years. In many ways, Grace was a pioneer, just as she had been her entire career.
Back in TNA, Grace enjoyed her longest title reign, holding the belt through October when old rival Masha Slamovich defeated her for the belt at Bound for Glory. Grace returned for just one match in TNA in 2025, losing to Tessa Blanchard at Genesis. The match was wrestled in Texas, creating somewhat of a full circle moment for Grace and her indie career.
What to Expect from Jordynne Grace in WWE?
From the indies to TNA to powerlifting, (where she is a 4x World Natural Powerlifting Federation Georgia State and National Records holder), everywhere Grace has gone in her career, she’s turned heads and made history. While with TNA, Grace helped usher in the promotion’s own women’s revolution, taking part in first-ever ironwoman, ultimate X, and queen of the mountain matches. Grace showed she could hang with the best of the roster, no matter what gender.
In WWE, she will no doubt look to do the same. Jordynne Grace has already expressed her affinity for Ultimate X and her desire to see that match reach WWE. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen but if anyone could make it so, it would be Grace, In WWE, she’ll have fresh matchups against a locker room that is full of the best female wrestlers in the world. Grace fits in as one of them as she is undeniably one of the top wrestlers out there and she’s already thrown out names like Rhea Ripley and Dakota Kai as women she can’t wait to wrestle. Grace has proven she belongs under the brightest spotlight. She’s proved it her entire career and she proved it on Saturday night when she returned for her second Royal Rumble appearance. Though this time, as a full member of the roster.
