The Los Angeles Knight Riders have confirmed former West Indies captain Jason Holder will lead the team in the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season.
Holder, a seasoned international all-rounder, brings years of leadership experience, having captained the West Indies in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
“We are excited to announce Jason Holder as the new captain of Los Angeles Knight Riders for the 2025 Major League Cricket,” the club announced.
Despite being appointed as the team’s full-time captain, Holder will not be available for the opening two fixtures due to international duties with the West Indies during their T20I series against Ireland. In his absence, Sunil Narine will take on the role of stand-in captain.
Narine, who has been a key player for LAKR and brings his own wealth of experience, will guide the team through the opening matches before Holder links up with the squad. The Barbadian all-rounder is expected to join the Knight Riders ahead of their third match, scheduled for June 17 against Washington Freedom in Oakland.
Holder’s leadership is expected to provide strategic depth and stability to a squad looking to make a strong impression in the 2025 campaign. His all-around skillset and composed on-field presence have been lauded throughout his career, qualities the franchise hopes will translate into success this season.
“Jason has led West Indies in all three formats in the international circuit, and we are confident he will do a great job for us at LAKR too,” the franchise stated.
