The last time we saw Trent Beretta on AEW programming, he was at war with Orange Cassidy. Beretta had turned on his best friends, causing a rift between him and Chuck Taylor. His attack on Taylor caused the injury that has likely ended his career.
Cassidy got his revenge, though. He attacked Beretta with a wrench, hitting him over the head and sending him onto AEW's injury list. Now that Cassidy finds himself in the crosshairs of the Blackpool Combat Club, he could probably use Beretta's help, as the duo made a formidable team.
During a recent interview with Yardbarker via the "Taylor Talks Wrestling" podcast, Cassidy admitted that he's unsure he and Beretta will ever bury the hatchet. However, he did admit that he hopes they can eventually get back on the same page.
"We saw what happens when I do get pushed a little too far." Cassidy said. "I hit him in the back of the head with a wrench, right? Like, that's not not cool. He's been hurt for a very long time. I don't know if I will ever be able to repair that relationship with Trent. I hope I do. I do hope I can, because he is; he was one of my Best Friends for a very long time. But also ... I think we could use someone like that. I could use someone like that, watching my back."
When Beretta does return, he will likely be another enemy. Cassidy is currently embroiled in a battle with Jon Moxley and the Blackpool Combat Club. He's stepped up to help defend AEW from the Trojan Horse attack.
Baretta has the aggression to fit perfectly with Moxley's cohort. He could become another member of The BCC, especially if it means getting his hands off Cassidy and anyone who has been defending him. That would be a disaster for the former International Champion, as not only would he be fighting off some of the most fierce talents in wrestling, he would be battling a former brother.
Cassidy can't afford to look too far ahead, though. He must focus on his upcoming tag team match with Darby Allin, where he will face Claudio Castagnoli and PAC on Wednesday's episode of Dynamite. He will then likely feature in AEW's debut show in Providence, RI, on Thursday before turning his attention toward his AEW World Championship bout with Moxley at Full Gear on Nov. 23.
It's tough sledding for Cassidy right now. He's running a gauntlet. Fortunately, Baretta is still sidelined with injury. But, when he eventually returns, that will be another battle Cassidy must face.
His enemies are quickly mounting up. It's going to be interesting to see how he navigates, and survives the coming months.
