The Young Bucks are executive vice presidents of AEW. They're supposed to be the first line of defense when the company comes under attack and exude control over the locker room. Yet, in recent weeks, they've stood idly by as the Blackpool Combat Club declared war on their company.
Both Matt and Nick Jackson have actively avoided confrontations with Jon Moxley's cohort of maniacs. Unfortunately, their cowardice has forced others to step up in their place.
Orange Cassidy is the man tasked with leading AEW's defense against its attack from within. However, just a few weeks ago, Cassidy openly rejected that role. The BCC's vicious attack on Chuck Taylor during the Oct. 30 episode of Dynamite quickly changed Cassidy's stance.
During a recent interview with Yardbarker via the "Taylor Talks Wrestling" podcast, Cassidy shared his frustration with The Young Bucks. He noted how they asked to be in their positions of power, yet he's been left high and dry when the company's back is against the wall.
"I shouldn't be in this position. I never wanted to be in this position. This is what they wanted, you know. This idea that they wanted to be those people. It's a situation that I never really wanted to be a part of. And I don't think it makes it difficult, it's just frustrating. It's like, 'Well, this is what you wanted, so now do it.' But now I have to. So, yeah, it's a little frustrating because where are all those people? Where is everybody? They're, you know ... it is frustrating."
Cassidy is set to team up with Darby Allin on Wednesday's episode of Dynamite, where they will face Claudio Castagnoli and PAC in tag team action. With AEW set to debut in Providence, RI, for a pre-recording of Collision, Cassidy will likely be present on both shows this week. He came up wrestling on the independent scene in New England.
Without The Young Bucks help, Cassidy will likely have to look elsewhere. Daniel Garcia and Darby Allin are the two most likely to watch his back, although Cassidy did tell Yardbarker he would prefer to face the BCC alone.
Nevertheless, when you're tasked with defeating some of the most brutal wrestlers on the planet, it pays to have people watching your six. Cassidy is a popular figure within the AEW locker room, so he should have no shortage of help if he comes to require it.
Still, when he steps into that ring against Jon Moxley on Nov. 23 at Full Gear it will just be the two of them. They will go head-to-head, just like they've done before when fighting for the International Championship.
No matter what happens in that match, this storyline will be far from over. The BCC is on a mission. Cassidy must find a way to derail their moment and protect the company he calls home.
