Orange Cassidy is at the forefront of AEW's hottest storyline. Despite initially trying to steer clear of the Blackpool Combat Club's rampage throughout AEW, he's been forced to step up. The brutal attack on Chuck Taylor at the end of Dynamite on Oct. 30 has left him with no choice.
Cassidy is one of the only members of the roster that has beaten each member of the dominant faction. He understands what it takes to come out on top against such fierce competition. He also understands the risks that come with facing down a group of wrestlers who are relentlessly attacking the locker room.
During a recent interview with Yardbarker via the Taylor Talks Wrestling podcast, Cassidy admitted that he wants to face down the BCC alone. He doesn't want to see others get hurt, either by teaming up with him or watching his back.
"I hope nobody (has my back)," Cassidy said. "Because, the whole goal of mine is stopping this thing. Throughout my career at AEW, it just seems like everybody that I associate with, they all tend to have terrible things happen to them. So I think now it's time for me just to do it on my own so that no one else gets hurt. But I know those guys. I know Darby (Allin), and I know Danny (Garcia) and I know, Private Party, Dark Order, like, they're gonna have my back. I can only convince them so much."
The current BCC storyline is among the hottest topics in professional wrestling. It's arguably second to WWE's "Bloodline." Moxley and his cohort have added a level of anticipation in every show as fans wait to see who becomes their next victim. Their promos and vignettes have been raw while providing subtle messages that keep you wanting more.
Cassidy's status as a pillar of AEW and one of their fastest-rising stars makes him the ideal face of the locker room's resistance. He is set to team up with Allin to face Claudio Castagnoli and PAC on Wednesday's edition of Dynamite. Something will likely happen before, during or after the bout to push the storyline further and develop more layers to the overall plot.
We will also get to see Cassidy face Moxley for the AEW World Championship on Nov. 23, during the Full Gear pay-per-view.
Furthermore, AEW is set to debut in Providence, RI, on Thursday. The event will be a pre-taping for Sunday's episode of Collision, so it's logical to expect a big night for the BCC storyline as Tony Khan's company looks to impress a potential new region of fans. Providence, and the entire New England area, has a strong reputation for developing wrestling talent, so a big show could help the company make a splash in the region.
Whatever happens in the coming weeks and months, it's highly unlikely Cassidy faces the BCC alone. The numbers game would be too much for him to overcome. As such, he may have to accept that there will be bloodshed and injuries. Still, if AEW wins and the BCC is put in their place, it will all be worth it.
