Becky Lynch's return to WWE at WrestleMania 41 in April 2025 marked the end of a year-long absence from television programming. Lynch first stepped away from WWE after losing the WWE Women's World Championship to Liv Morgan and failing to regain it on Raw in May 2024.

In a revealing new interview with Variety.com, "The Man" explained that while her hiatus was initially planned, its duration was extended by both professional commitments and an unexpected health setback that delayed an earlier anticipated comeback. She initially envisioned a shorter break.

"I took what I thought was going to be three months off during the summer, when my contract came up," Lynch recalled. "I was like, ‘Okay, seems like a good time to take a little break, get some stuff done.'"

However, her time off extended as significant acting opportunities arose. “Then other things came up. I was filming ‘Star Trek’ and then ‘Happy Gilmore’ [related project],” she explained, indicating these projects took priority during that period.

Discussions for her WWE return then began to focus on early 2025. “There was talk [of a return] around Rumble time," Lynch confirmed, referencing the January Premium Live Event. Unfortunately, this plan was unexpectedly derailed. "But then at the last minute, I got a skin condition," she revealed, explaining the unforeseen medical issue that prevented her from returning at that point.

With a Royal Rumble comeback no longer feasible, WrestleMania 41 became the next logical and high-profile window for her return. Lynch saw the timing as opportune, especially given the storyline she was able to integrate into. "The next big event was WrestleMania, so it seemed to make sense, especially if I could take Bayley out of the mix and ruin her dreams. It felt doubly brilliant,” she said, alluding to the angle that saw her replace an "attacked" Bayley.
