The New Day Leave WWE, Other Superstars Released
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods kick Big E out of the New Day on WWE Raw

In the days after WrestleMania 42, WWE brought wrestling fans back down to Earth with the shocking release of 23 superstars . Among them were Kairi Sane, Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, and the entire Wyatt Sicks faction. This has become a heartbreaking annual event and the fear was that it might not be over. Alas, it wasn't, because on May 2, it was revealed that several more names are gone. Among them are one of the greatest tag teams of all-time, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of the New Day .

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods Left WWE

The first bombshell dropped with a report from both Fightful Select and Bodyslam:

A major act has left WWE.

Fightful Select and Cory Hays from Bodyslam have learned that New Day members Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston are leaving WWE. Fightful Select was told they mutually decided to part ways.

This is certainly a shocker. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, alongside Big E, were part of one of the most successful factions of all-time and are certain future WWE Hall of Famers. Unfortunately, Big E hasn't wrestled in years due to a broken neck and Kingston and Woods, who turned heel, are not regulars on WWE programming. Kingston last wrestled on SmackDown on April 17, and Woods, who has been out with injury, hasn't performed since a dark match at the Royal Rumble. Speculation will now run rampant that they might sign with AEW to have a dream match with their friends, the Young Bucks.

JC Mateo and Tonga Loa of the MFTs Released

The MFTs WWE SmackDown October 2025

The New Day aren't the only ones gone from WWE. So are two members of the MFTs. Fightful Select reports:

We are told JC Mateo and Tanga Loa are also leaving the company.

JC Mateo, better known as Jeff Cobb, signed with WWE last year after a distinguished career, only to be given a horrible new name and dropped in the background of Solo Sikoa's MFTs. Meanwhile, Tonga Loa, the son of Haku, and the brother of Tama and Talla Tonga, was held back by injury along with several in-ring botches. Does this spell the end of the MFTs, who were just part of SmackDown's main event after weeks of feuding with the Wyatt Sicks?
