Tiffany Stratton Reflects on Controversial Charlotte Flair Segment
via WWE

WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton is on a high right now. She successfully defended her title against Jade Cargill last weekend at SummerSlam , and prior to that, she successfully retained against WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus at the Evolution PLE . Though Stratton just can’t seem to shake her past feud with Charlotte Flair, and that’s because one thing keeps coming up during interviews, her controversial in-ring segment. The 26-year-old opened up about those comments on the latest episode of Logan Paul’s podcast, Impaulsive.

Tiffany Stratton Wanted To Prove To Charlotte That She Was Worthy

Ahead of their WrestleMania 41 match, on the April 4 episode of WWE SmackDown, Stratton went off script and brought up Flair’s three divorces. She said:

“You might be Queen inside of the ring, but outside of the ring, you ain’t the Queen of s–t. When I beat you at WrestleMania, Charlotte, you are going to be just like you are outside of the ring, alone. What is that record? 0-3? Woooo!”

Stratton explained to Paul that things were heated at that moment, and she felt like she had something to prove to Flair. The Women’s Champion did apologize to Flair, but according to the 26-year-old, all of what she said was still justified. She said:

“Things were heated, very competitive. I’m also competitive, trying to prove to Charlotte Flair I can go, I can stand up to her, I’m worthy of this title. So yeah, s–-t got heated, we went off script. It happens. I did have to apologize, I’m someone who can embrace being wrong. I had no problem apologizing. I think what I did was justified, but maybe I shouldn’t have gone that far. But I do feel that I was justified by what I did.” (h/t: F4WOnline)

Granted, Stratton wouldn’t be the first wrestler to go off script and push the limits. Though the new Netflix docuseries, WWE: Unreal, showed that Tiffany caught the ire of WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H.

What Happened Behind The Scenes?

As reported, in the ‘WrestleMania’ titled episode of the hit Netflix series, Triple H is seen talking to SVP of Creative Writing Ed Koskey, and he's visibly upset. He's telling Koskey that Tiffany is going to have to apologize and understand that’s not how it works around there. He said:

“I need Tiffany to understand that’s obviously not how we do this. So, she needs to go to Charlotte and apologize, and they need to get on the same page.”

In the end, the WrestleMania 41 match saw Stratton successfully retain the title, and their feud has since moved on. Go forward a few months, and now it looks like Charlotte is having the most fun in her career. Stratton wasn’t the only one to be successful at SummerSlam. The odd pairing of Flair and Alexa Bliss surprised fans by defeating Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez for the Women’s Tag Team Titles.
