WWE Backlash 2026 will air live on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa.
The event begins at 6:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. CT / 3:00 p.m. PT and is headlined by Roman Reigns defending the World Heavyweight Championship against his cousin, Jacob Fatu. It will mark Reigns’ first title defense since capturing the championship at WrestleMania 42.
Fans are also buzzing about a special announcement from John Cena, who has promised to “shake the foundations” of WWE.
Here’s a full preview of Backlash, including the final match card, key storylines, and how to watch.

Danhausen and a mystery partner vs. The Miz and Kit Wilson
WWE has a chance to create another memorable moment in Danhausen’s PLE debut. Given the spotlight, the mystery partner feels like an opportunity for a return, debut, or legend appearance.

My pick? If CM Punk is indeed headed to SmackDown, Backlash would be a natural place for him to return from his brief post-WrestleMania hiatus. Pairing him with his real-life friend Danhausen would deliver an instant crowd-pleasing moment.
Cena has been heavily involved in promoting Club WWE, the company’s new fan rewards platform. WWE has already revealed some details, but fan interest has been lukewarm.

Because Cena has personally pushed this announcement on social media, it feels like it needs to be bigger than a standard promotional rollout. If it is tied to Club WWE, WWE will need to reveal something tangible that fans actually want. Otherwise, the “insider” concept may be a tough sell—especially to a global audience.
Backlash will stream on Netflix internationally. In the United States, the event streams on ESPN Unlimited, with the first hour simulcast on ESPN2.
Subscription packages for ESPN Unlimited start at $29.99 per month.
