Why Carmelo Hayes Will Benefit from a Trick Williams WWE Main Roster Call-Up
Dylan Azari/Special to the Telegram & Gazette / USA TODAY NETWORK

For months, Carmelo Hayes and The Miz have formed a partnership on WWE Friday Night SmackDown that started well but has lately been filled with tension. On September 26, 2025, the episode of SmackDown completely broke down. They were facing the Street Profits in a number one contender’s match for the WWE Tag Team Championships. Hayes was doing great, but The Miz tagged himself in, desperate to make the win about him. That was the wrong decision, as the Street Profits handled him efficiently and got the pinfall for the victory.

Afterwards, Hayes told the camera that three strikes meant you’re out, signaling the end of their tag team. But all might not be lost for him. A familiar face could join him if things go a certain way in the next couple of weeks. If that happens, Hayes’ losing ways might not last much longer.

Trick Williams is Ready for the Main Roster

Looking at Trick Williams’ career in NXT and saying it’s impressive would be an understatement. He’s been a two-time NXT Champion and a one-time NXT North American Champion. In five years, he has worked hard to get to where he is today. As the current TNA Champion, he has a busy upcoming schedule. His status for NXT Invasion is unclear, as Ricky Saints is now the NXT Champion. But it’s confirmed that he’ll face Mike Santana for the TNA World Championship at Bound for Glory on October 12.

Taking the title off of him would not only give TNA some leverage in their partnership with NXT, but it would also allow Williams to go to the main roster. If that happens, he’ll leave NXT with a lot of accomplishments. A full-time reunion of Trick Melo Gang would help both of them and the SmackDown tag team division.

Carmelo Hayes Gets a Partner He Knows He Can Trust

When Hayes’ partnership with The Miz was formed, some people questioned it. The Miz only looks out for himself and wants things to be done his way. That’s the type of attitude that can rub people the wrong way. Predictably, that behavior led to the breakup of Melo Don’t Miz. Reuniting Hayes with Williams on the main roster is a natural fit. Yes, they’ve had their fair share of betrayal and arguments. But the two men have a connection that’s been forged through many years of ups and downs.

Their reunion at NXT Homecoming was a success, and the fans loved that they were back together. They are back on the same page, and splitting them up when Williams gets on the main roster wouldn’t be a good idea. It’s only right to pair them together to show the main roster audience the magic they created in NXT.

Trick Melo Gang Should Be Reunited Permanently

A lot of things in wrestling come down to timing. Right now, both Hayes and Williams are looking at uncertainty. After many heartbreaking losses, Hayes is partnerless without much direction. As TNA’s anger grows amidst lopsided booking decisions, Williams is looking at potentially losing the TNA World Championship to a very hungry Santana.

If he does lose a week from Sunday, both men would be at their lowest points in quite a while. That’s why bringing Williams up to the main roster would work if that specific scenario played out. Hayes gets a tag team partner with whom he has familiarity.

Williams gets to debut on the main roster after a tremendous NXT career. The tag team division needs a shakeup, especially given the Wyatt Sicks’ current reign of terror. Making Trick Melo Gang a main roster tag team would help both of them in a big way.
