You might be surprised to see R-Truth set to face John Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event. If you’ve only been watching WWE since the pandemic era, you only know one side of R-Truth.
The funny and silly guy who makes people laugh.
However, he actually is more capable in the ring than many people realize. He is a two-time WWE United States champion, a two-time WWF Hardcore champion, and a two-time WWE tag team champion.
In addition, he won championships during his runs with NWA and TNA. The older generation knows him as a very talented wrestler, which will be shown to the younger people on Saturday.
After he got hit with the Attitude Adjustment by John Cena at the WrestleMania: Backlash press conference, there was only one path to go. He will face him in a non-title match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. R-Truth will surprise many people in a match that definitely deserves to happen for many reasons.
Fans have heard R-Truth say that John Cena is a childhood hero to him. Obviously, that’s his character talking, as he is older than Cena. However, there is some truth to that. Both men have a storied history with each other that has made for some great moments in the ring.
Given their relationship, it would make sense for this to be one of John Cena’s final matches. R-Truth has had some amazing moments with John Cena, with more definitely coming on Saturday.
He Gets to Show Everyone What He Can Do in the Ring
R-Truth has done a lot of things during his two runs in WWE. He has won championships, faced off against countless WWE Hall of Famers, and has made people laugh. But, the younger generations have mostly only seen him do the latter.
A lot of people, especially new fans or kids, will probably think of the match as a squash. He’ll get one or two chances at offense in, Cena will give him the Attitude Adjustment, and then he’ll get pinned and lose. Many people don’t know how talented he truly is.
Like Akira Tozawa and Otis, if you put him in a serious match, lots of people will be surprised. If he couldn’t wrestle, he probably would’ve been released years ago. But his comedy skills alone haven’t kept him in the company. On Saturday, R-Truth will show people the talented wrestler that he truly is.
R-Truth and John Cena is a Great Non-Title Match
Even though John Cena is the WWE champion, the match against R-Truth will be a non-title match. Building up a match like that was easy for them. Their history with each other is all the explanation that was needed. R-Truth’s insistence on Cena being the good guy and the Attitude Adjustment was an extra treat for long term fans.
For decades, people have watched them on their television screens. Knowing that this is Cena’s last year as a professional wrestler, they probably expected some sort of interaction between the two men. Having an R-Truth singles match on a PLE, which hasn’t happened since he faced Bobby Lashley at Money in the Bank in 2020, is a special thank you from Cena.
R-Truth sharing the spotlight with John Cena one last time is a great way to commemorate their decade long friendship.
