Why The Hardy Boyz Won the NXT Tag Team Championships
WWE

For months, the NXT and TNA partnership was going on without many achievements on the TNA side. The NXT wrestlers were the ones getting all the TNA belts. Trick Williams has held the TNA World Championship since May, winning it at NXT Battleground from Joe Hendry. Jacy Jayne won the TNA Knockouts’ World Championship weeks later. Ash by Elegance took the belt back, but only had it for over a month when she relinquished it. That was when Kelani Jordan took the belt. NXT Showdown happened because TNA was dissatisfied with NXT taking their titles.

At the event, TNA finally got hold of an NXT belt. The Hardy Boyz beat DarkState to win the NXT Tag Team Championships. It was a long time coming for many reasons. Not only are Jeff and Matt Hardy making TNA proud, they’re also able to make WWE management proud as well.

The Hardy Boyz Winning Can Be a Learning Experience

Some people might have a problem with the Hardy Boyz winning the NXT Tag Team Championships. Given their age, it’s understandable, as Jeff is 48 and Matt is 51. However, they both have over three decades of wrestling experience. All the members of DarkState, as well as much of the NXT roster, weren’t even born yet when they made their wrestling debuts. That experience is invaluable when you’re working with someone. The amount of wrestling knowledge they have will definitely help them as they work with wrestlers half their age.

Putting the belts on them allows them, as the veterans, to impart knowledge to everyone else in the NXT tag team division. Most of the roster who grew up watching wrestling probably cite them as inspiration. Asking them questions and getting advice will immensely help the young wrestlers until they drop the titles.

They Get Another Chance to Impress WWE Management

The Hardy Boyz are two of the most accomplished wrestlers in WWE history, with 26 singles and tag team titles. However, things didn’t go as planned during their last runs. For Matt, things were looking good until Jeff’s legitimate injury in April 2019, ending their run as SmackDown Tag Team Champions. From then on, he was barely booked and didn’t win one singles match. His contract expired in March 2020, ending his third run with the company. Jeff’s exit was far more abrupt.

After walking out of a tag team match at a live event, he was released in December 2021. That altered NXT’s plans as well, as he was supposed to be MSK’s shaman instead of Riddle. Both men had disappointing endings in their latest WWE runs. Now, as NXT Tag Team Champions, they can show WWE management that they can still go at a high level.

The Two of Them Winning is Good for WWE

There were a lot of mixed reactions when the Hardy Boyz won the NXT Tag Team Championships. It may seem odd to some, but the decision actually makes sense. Matt and Jeff started their wrestling careers before most of NXT’s roster was even born. They were the wrestlers who were being cited as inspiration for the NXT wrestlers who watched wrestling as young kids. Their vast knowledge will help them in and out of the ring.

Whichever their competitors will be, they will definitely get a lot of help to further their careers. Both men also get to redeem themselves after their last runs. Matt didn’t get a satisfactory last few months before his contract expired, and Jeff’s actions led to a sudden release. The Hardy Boyz getting another chance is excellent for the NXT and TNA partnership, as well as WWE as a whole.
