Will Ospreay provides encouraging injury update

Will Ospreay has been off AEW programming since participating in a "lights out cage match" at Forbidden Door. Before the AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling crossover pay-per-view, he informed fans that he was dealing with two herniated discs.

Therefore, the expectation was that Ospreay would need to undergo surgery and potentially be away from AEW for a prolonged period. On Thursday, Ospreay took to X to inform his fans that his surgery was a success.

Ospreay will now begin his recovery phase. No timeline has been given for when he can begin working out in the ring or when his next match will be. Instead, it's likely that his return will be at some point in 2026 and will be kept under wraps to help create a memorable moment.

Since joining AEW in February 2024, Ospreay has established himself as one of the top talents within the company. He's a fan favorite among AEW viewers and a face of the company, both for now and in the future.

Will Ospreay may need to adapt his wrestling style

In an Aug. 22 interview with "The Takedown on SI," Ospreay revealed that surgery on his injuries would likely mean adjusting how he wrestles.

"I know what lies ahead and I know what's going to be coming after this," Ospreay said. "I just don't know what that looks like. People that have said after this, like, there's things that you're gonna have to say no to and there's things that you're gonna have to turn tone down on with my style."

Ospreay has always been a daredevil in the ring. His high-flying approach is both captivating and nerve-racking. Nevertheless, he's young enough and talented enough to adjust his style and still be an elite world-level talent.

It will, however, take time for him to find the right cadence in how to time and pace his in-ring work. Still, AEW will undoubtedly be counting down the days until his return, especially as it looks to keep up its momentum from an incredibly successful 2025.
