WWE and AEW Schedule Competing Events on September 20
Tony Khan in AEW and Triple H in WWE
  • WWE and AEW will have events on the same day, intensifying competition.
  • WWE previously scheduled NXT events on same day as AEW events.
  • Confirmed matches for AEW's Forbidden Door and NXT's Heatwave events.

They say that a little competition is good, and that’s exactly what is going on between WWE and AEW. For the first time, WWE will be holding a main roster PLE on the same day as an AEW pay-per-view. Things are heating up between the two promotions.

When Are The Events?

According to POST Wrestling, which spoke with multiple sources, it was confirmed that WWE will be doing a yet-to-be-announced premium live event on Saturday, September 20, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The event is the same day as AEW’s All Out pay-per-view, which will be taking place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. As of this writing, it’s unclear what time the WWE event will be, but All Out is set for 8 p.m. ET.

Nearly two weeks before the event, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque is scheduled to speak on Sept. 9, 10, and 11 at the Old National Centre for TEDSports Indianapolis. It’s worth mentioning that this past WWE’s Royal Rumble PLE took place at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

WWE NXT Vs. AEW

While this may be the first time that a main roster PLE has conflicted with an AEW event, that’s not the case for WWE’s developmental brand, NXT. This year alone, WWE has scheduled its NXT premium live events on the same day as AEW’s All In Texas and Double or Nothing. Also, AEW and NJPW’s Forbidden Door event is set for this month on August 24, and that’s the time when NXT’s Heatwave PLE is.

Confirmed matches for Forbidden Door include Kazuchika Okada defending the AEW Unified Championship against Swerve Strickland, and AEW Women’s Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm is set to defend her title against Athen a. The event will be taking place in London, England, at the O2 Arena.

NXT Heatwave confirmed matches include Jordynne Grace vs. Blake Monroe, and Oba Femi will defend the NXT Championship against Je’Von Evans or Trick Williams. Also, Hank and Tank will be defending the NXT Tag Team Titles against two members of DarkState (Dion Lennox, Osiris Griffin, Saquon Shugars, or Cutler James). Heatwave will be at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, Massachusetts. Overall, it'll be interesting to see how WWE or AEW will react to the events happening on the same night in September.
