The neon lights are shining; the nostalgia is ringing from every corner of Yuengling Center. WWE has invaded Tampa Bay for another edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event. It should be a great night of wrestling with some interesting matches lined up.

Jey Uso vs Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre vs Damian Priest, CM Punk & Sami Zayn vs Seth Rollins & Bron Breakker, John Cena vs R-Truth, and Zelina Vega vs Chelsea Green represent a wide variety of contests that could produce the best show of the year. Just how good will the night be? Let’s review Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Seth Rollins & Bron Breakker vs CM Punk & Sami Zayn (2.75/5)

This was the right choice to start the show. The crowd was hot from the first fireworks and gave great ovations for each man’s entrance.

As a traditional tag match, this one will never get amazing marks, but it was never meant to be a traditional tag. There was going to be action spilling out of every corner, and it was all the more fun for it. Every combination of man was used, and it was a great showcase of each man’s talent.

Being on a shorter show, the match was not going to be long, but they did what they could with their time. It was a fun match, but one that was used to build towards the return of Big Bronson Reed. The Dangerous Alliance is back.

Women’s United States Championship Match: Zelina Vega vs Chelsea Green (2/5)

Green is so much more over than Vega. The crowd sounded like they were sitting on their hands during Zelina’s entrance.

The women worked hard to get the crowd back into the match. There were some sloppy spots to start the contest off, but when Green took control, we got to see a better story unfold. Green is uber talented and deserves a larger push within the company.

This was a television match that was put there to fill out the card. A fantastic code red spot for Vega, the win was awesome, but it can’t make up for the sloppiness that was throughout.

John Cena vs R-Truth (1.5/5)

Cena is doing everything he can to get over as a heel, but the crowd is always going to be 50-50. It was still a great entrance, followed by an even better one by R-Truth. His Cena-esque entrance was just as good as the original.

Admittedly, the back-and-forth to start the match, while slow, was very entertaining. Truth had the crowd thinking he might actually get the three count after an Attitude Adjustment. But that was where any fun ended. This match was a squash that didn’t do anything to move Cena or Truth forward. There was no run-in or post-match beatdown of note.

Steel Cage Match: Damian Priest vs Drew McIntyre (2.5/5)

This program has gotten intensely personal, and this was the best way in which to end it. From the opening bell, Priest and McIntyre hit every big move that they could. There was no building to a climax here; the entire match was the climax. Both men knew what they needed to do here, and they did it.

There were some great spots throughout. The superplex of the cage, Drew stealing Priest’s South of Heaven finish and the chair to the throat being examples of this. It was a fun match to watch, and they got creative with the gimmick that they were given.

Things were chugging along great until they stumbled into the finish. The con-chair-to was a great spot, but Priest waltzing out the cage door was cheap; there was no drama with this finish. If this is how it ends, it was a poor end. Good match until that point though.

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Jey Uso vs Logan Paul (3/5)

The build towards this match was surprisingly captivating. Great for Uso to go against a heat magnet like Paul, and it pushed the fans in his corner even more. Jey’s entrance remains the best in the company. The crowd was nuts, and it was fun to watch.

This was a really fun match. It always amazes how competent of a wrestler Paul is. He has the athleticism to succeed, but also understands the subtle nuances of putting on an entertaining wrestling match. There was a tight wrestling match that took place between these two men. It was exciting and fit a ton of spots in a short time frame. There were some near-falls that had the crowd on the edge of their seats.

The run-in by Cena got a bit of an eye roll, but it seemed to be the only way to connect Cena/Paul vs Rhodes/Uso at Money in the Bank. It could have been a better-booked match, but it was head and shoulders the best of the night.
