The Undertaker battled with some of WWE's all-time greats during his career, and one member of the current roster has dreams of facing the WWE Hall of Famer. The Phenom retired in November 2020 and missed out on competing against some of the current generation who look up to him.
Damian Priest idolizes The Undertaker, and he made that clear when asked which WWE star is his 'dream opponent'. He said on Delivering Happiness:
"The easy answer, if you could pick anybody, it's always The Undertaker. That guy was the reason why I fell in love with wrestling. It was his persona, his aura and everything. If I had to pick somebody, he's always the easy answer, man. It would be cool to be in the ring to watch his entrance, to be honest."
There's little chance of seeing Priest granted his wish to face Taker, given it's been five years since the latter's retirement and he is now 60. But he does have a fan in the Deadman who congratulated him when he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40.
The Undertaker is synonymous with Mania, having held a 21-match winning streak at WWE's biggest show of the year. That was just one of many countless feats he achieved in a nearly 30-year career.
Priest has been likened to Taker by many of those who came up against him, including Road Dogg. But the 43-year-old has some way to go to come close to replicating the iconic career of the Phenom.
It's fair to say that Priest has lost some of the momentum from his run as world champion and his time spent in The Judgment Day on WWE RAW. Since he was drafted to SmackDown, he hasn't quite hit the heights that preceded him, and this year has been a quiet one for the Archer of Infamy.
Priest revealed during his interview that WWE has given him a relaxed schedule to ensure "you're going to last here." That explains his noticeable absences from PLEs and a lack of consistent appearances on SmackDown.
He has been embroiled in a feud with Aleister Black, but this hasn't quite been as compelling as envisioned. His babyface gimmick is a hit with fans, but perhaps making him more mysterious and undergoing a character transformation could bring him back into the main event scene.
Priest has the look and the in-ring style that would suit a Taker-like persona, and he could take inspiration from his idol. He has been with WWE since 2018 and is now one of the veterans, a former world champion, who needs a new direction.
