A new quarterback stat that the folks at Pro Football Focus started keeping an eye on in recent years has been Average Depth of Target (aDOT). The stat takes a look at what kind of distance a QB is looking at for his targets. For instance, it might carry more meaning if a quarterback has a 60% completion percentage and Average Depth of Target of 10 yards than a quarterback with a 60% completion percentage and aDOT of 7 yards. When looking at receivers we tend to note Yards Per Reception and Targets, so why not look at the same type of stat for QBs?
In 2012 Andrew Luck was the poster boy of the Bruce Arians offensive system. Long drop backs, time for plays for develop, and a ton of long balls. Luck led all quarterbacks in Average Depth of Target with 10.8 yards. That’s a pretty significant stat and it plays a great deal into Luck’s successful fantasy production in 2012. Sure, he was under 60% in...

Last season, Colts fans got to witness something pretty spectacular in the season that many thought would be nothing. A team without it’s head coach for most of the time, losing one of the all-time greats at Quarterback and starting anew, the die hard fans stuck around to watch a two win team pull together for eleven wins and a playoff berth – and a bit of an extra perk. The...
Coming off the 2012 season I was pretty excited for the prospect of Vick Ballard stepping up in 2013. The coaching staff and GM, Ryan Grigson, we’re speaking highly of him and he certainly sounded like he could be the next workhorse in a new system that would see more pounding on the ground. Ballard could be that between the tackles bully I’d really like to see. In comes...

McAfee will instead earn a 2013 salary of $2.977 million, and enter free agency next year.
He's one of eight players this offseason with the tag, and none fo them have signed a long...
For the last couple seasons the New England Patriots showed the NFL how deadly having two top-notch tight ends can be, the dynamic, record-setting duo of Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. However, with Hernandez in jail and Gronkowski on the mend the 'dynamic duo' mantle has been vacated.
This season don't be surprised if Indianapolis Colts tight ends Coby Fleener...
Indianapolis Colts backup tight end Weslye Saunders will be suspended without pay for the first eight games of the NFL season, an NFL spokesman announced.
s policy on PEDs, as he was suspended for the first four games of the 2012 season.
Bill Barnwell takes a look at the big four rookie quarterbacks from 2012 and tries to project out to 2013 and beyond. He offers up some interesting statistics and comparisons that contribute to any conversation about the future prospects of Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick.
Yet while he addresses how Andrew Luck had little to work with in Indy...
Houston Texans, FLAT: The Texans are atop a week division. That simple fact may catch up to them in the playoffs. Six easy games will likely soften the Texans up a bit, and it's something they'll have to work to prevent from happening. The Texans are still one of the best teams in the league, and with the Patriots looking less and less like a Super Bowl contender, it may...
