The Buffalo Bills have complained to the NFL after having to face off against six teams who are coming off of extra rest (Credit: CBS Sports) In the NFL, a few extra days between games often means more time for players to rest and coaches to study tape on their next opponent. Not only do teams get more rest through a bye week, but playing a Thursday night game also offers teams more days off before their next game. Some years, certain teams have to face off against several teams that are coming off of extra rest. This year, that team is the Buffalo Bills. Currently sitting at 3-7, the Bills will face off against the Jets this Sunday. For the second time this year, the Bills will play the Jets as they come off of extra rest. In week two, when the two teams last met, the Jets were coming off of a Thursday night game. This Sunday, the Jets are coming off of a bye week. For Buffalo, this will be the fifth time they have played a team coming off of extra rest. They have already played the Dolphins and Saints coming off of their bye weeks and have played the Bengals the week following their Thursday night game. The team will also play the Jaguars in week 15 following their week 14 Thursday night game. Playing several teams coming off of their bye weeks, the Bills are unhappy with their situation and have reached out to the league to complain. “We certainly have talked to the league about this because it’s been disappointing where teams are coming off a bye or a long week,” CEO Russ Brandon said, via the team’s website. “This is the second time we’re playing the Jets coming off a Thursday night game and now we’re playing them coming off a bye. We lead the league in amount of games coming off of extra time or a bye week. It is a very, very tough job what they have in scheduling with all the different things that go into the formula and the stadium commitments and TV schedules, but it’s certainly something that needs to be addressed.” The Atlanta Falcons are the next highest team, playing just four games against teams coming off of extra rest. The other thirty teams in the NFL play three or less games against teams with extra rest.
